IDK if anyone remembers my hyper-enthusiastic posts about the passel of kittens living under the patio at my neighborhood bar but I am delighted to report that they have all been spayed/neutered! Now they are fat chonks clearly catching mice and enjoying patrons' largesse and pets.

I think it's really one of the greatest neighborhood bars in the country

This has particularly been on my mind because I stopped in at my old local (we moved farther than stumbling distance) a couple of days ago for a burger, and before I could get my sunglasses off, the owner yelled my name from the corner and gave me a massive hug. (Workhorse Bar, for Austin folks)

The delightful thing about this kind of "fame" is that it's achievable for almost anyone capable of stopping in regularly at their local bar, bodega, or coffee shop and being a great customer. Nothing on earth better than the "Norm!" effect when you walk in the door.

I flail at this a lot of the time, too! Oftentimes there's an option to not pick a particular geography but very frequently there is not! I cannot imagine it helps anyone's ~ diversity ~ tracking to know that my people came to the US from uhhhhh roughly Ireland/England hundreds of years ago

that would look incredible but one thing that's pushing me on this is the amount of upkeep! it's a $$$ hassle to keep the roots blond (my hair is a super dark brown naturally)

also a top consideration! advantage: i have an absolute ton of pink hair dye in a thousand shades already
