I like things such as video games and music. I will post about those things. It will be fun.
Always wanted to try this series based on visuals alone but never have gotten around to it.
Yep, it's a fine line. I appreciate being able to figure stuff out on my own but so often older games were not at all intuitive about what to do next so it devolves into frustration rather quickly.
Roll credits on Symphony of the Night. My first time playing, it flew by. Really good Metroid-clone, so good they named the genre after it. Everything was really well done, at the time it was likely groundbreaking.
It was a very fun experience and I appreciate the history lesson on the genre I love
I'm never opposed to the use of walkthroughs/strategy guides (do what makes the experience best for you!), but for some reason I find myself reaching for them way quicker on older games than new ones. Don't really know why.
Lol, amazing! I'll be patiently waiting for B-K day!!!
Could you do "25 Days of Banjo-Kazooie" instead? Asking for a friend.
I found the Schmoo...30 minutes later I got the drop. Not only is the item super powerful, I gained a bunch of levels trying to get it. I feel invincible now! 🤣
Schmoo! Definitely haven't seen that one yet (at least since I got the name revealing ability). I will be sure to try if I see one! Thanks!

Man, he put forth such a great image through his videos for years. Goes to show how much you can hide. Really wild to see all of this coming out.
November. Revisiting quite a few from this year, finding myself enjoying all of them. New stuff on top.
Reposting. A lot of great recommendations in the replies already, so check those out. Also looking for more recs if you have them!
Hit me with your favorite indie games from 2023 that are available on consoles (PS5, XSX, or Switch).
I started playing it in January so I also consider it to be 2023. Gotta watch out for those confusing December releases!
Banjo-Kazooie and Super Mario 64 are two of my favorite games ever, so I'll definitely give that a look! Thanks!
I'm typically years late on indie games so I'm excited to look into and play some recent games here.
Oooh, thank you! I've heard a few of these names but certainly haven't played any, this will give me quite a lot of homework to do! 😂
Makes sense. Just zooming out to a high level it's pretty funny that there is a way to slot those two games as total opposites in anything 😂
I am especially fond of your Lumines/Tetris relaxing/stressful split. Funny how two similar games can hit the same person way differently

Modern video gaming is wild. Scrolling the PS5 app, here are a random assortment of games I have in my collection through the free (with paid subscription) games of the month.
How many dozens or hundreds of hours of REALLY good gaming is sitting right here on my digital backlog? What a time...
First impressions of Symphony of the Night. Playing on PS5, the PS4 Requiem release
A couple hours in, it's really good! My only other Castlevania was IV and I didn't love it. This one is way faster and has elements which make me understand why the genre is called Metroidvania and not Metroidlike.
Naturally I have access to all of the PS consoles except 3 😂. No handhelds either, unfortunately.
Thanks for the info though, definitely saved me the trouble of looking!
By far my favorite "new to me" musical discovery of this year has been Great Grandpa. This is "Four Arrows" from 2019, their most recent album.
Consider them Wednesday-adjacent, sound wise: southern tinged, showcase style, guitar rock. Both this and "Plastic Cough" are fantastic albums.
I have so much to say about this. Instead, I'll just say: enjoy it!! (And be sure to play part 2 as well!)
As for what I'll actually play post-FFT...
I'll slowly work through Uncharted 4 platinum, but I won't have that as my primary game.
I'm considering:
Parasite Eve (PS1)
God of War II (PS2)
SotN (PS4)
Teardown (PS5)
Dead Cells (PS5)
Hollow Knight (PS4)
All except HK would be new to me.
The feeling after beating a game you thoroughly enjoyed is always the same:
Equal parts excitement for what you might play next and dread for fear of it not being as good as the game you just played.
I feel like I know enough about the game now to have a really fun second playthrough. Not sure when that will happen, but I'm definitely not opposed to it.
Overall: great game, glad to finish it since I didn't as a kid.
Rating: 9/10
The end boss gauntlet part was very good but a bit easy with Orlandu in the party. Just sit back and watch him kill everybody (him one-shotting all of the final boss's minions was hilarious).
I appreciated how much less gimmicky the story fights were than expected. I am certain I played very few of them correctly but was able to power through nonetheless. A few times I asked for some advice to get through, but mostly my random, suboptimal build choices were good enough.
My last save was a bit over 40 hours. I did what felt like a lot of grinding to unlock skills.
Such a deep set of options this game provides with its job/skill pairings. I fell in love with my ninja-->knight; two swords and armor? Yes, please!
The story was fine but a bit confusing.
A wrap on Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1).
Took a bit for me to really get into it, but I ran through the last half or so once I did. I expected to enjoy the battles but hate the jobs/skills side. I ended up loving all of the jobs and spent hours on random encounters so I could use new jobs/skills.
Those last two Foxing albums are some of my favorites of the last 5 years. DDTM was a massive grower.
Courtney Barnett is also a recent-ish favorite. And I'll always listen to Wilco, my favorite of the last handful from them.
Hades II 100% for me. Rebirth maybe, depending on how busy I am at the time.
The overall list is very light for me right now. Things always pop up, of course, but the big ticket AAA stuff that is announced doesn't really grab me for the most part.
I should try a Like a Dragon game...
A break from the usual for a second...
I "run" (mostly just participate in) a Discord server dedicated to digital board games. We talk about other stuff, or course, but mostly setup asynchronous digital board games. Boardgamearena, apps, etc...
Stop bye and say hi:

It is super simple! They did a really good job of making it easy on us, you'll do great!!
Always love a good mis-translation.
Final Fantasy Tactics on PS1.
Rounding third on this one, it finally hooked me properly these last couple of weeks. Not sure how much grinding I'll have to do, but I think I'm closing in on single digit mandatory fights left.
The perfect PS platinum experience in my book:
- Adds <50% to the normal game time
- Makes you try things you might not have otherwise
- Does not include trophies tied to difficulty settings
- Does not include online play
- Does include a petting the cat trophy
- Can be done in one playthrough
I've seen multiple people speaking highly of this, so I'm finally installing after seeing post about it. Looks fun!
I tried this one earlier this year and it did not land. I love Metroid games too. Glad you are enjoying it!
I remember coming home with NBA In The Zone and Resident Evil longboxes with my PSX. Sad they moved away, jewel cases are the worst physical media case in existence.
Every single person has a different concept of value and different financial situation. I think it's dumb to try to project perceived value onto readers, but it is worthwhile to point out game length and price because that will help certain people reading/watching the review.
What? It’s not a 300-hour epic? Not worth $60, then!
The time/length = value concept is legitimately stupid. I will absolutely die on this hill.
My favorites tend to be fairly locked in so I mostly revisit the stuff I didn't listen to enough or that I remember liking but fell off my radar.
The New Pornographers, Jeff Rosenstock, Mitski, Equipment, Fiddlehead, Ratboys, and Fireworks are some of those this year.
