What's a film, game or other piece of media you believe has had a massive influence on your work?
Shadow of the Colossus was hugely influential to me in terms of learning to convey scale, as well as sparking my love for giant creatures in general.
The Last of us, original one. I remember seeing it and playing for the first time and I was AMAZED at the post apocalyptic buildings covered in grass. It helped me realize my own apocalyptic world in a physical form. Prior to 2013 I barely rendered buildings.
Ooooh nice ^^ I haven't played that game, but I do follow some Instagram pages that showcase abandoned places and they're all so fascinating. Nature reclaiming manmade structures is such a beautiful thing 💖
I have two huge influences, représentations of animals from various cultures and ages that catches what an animal is with minimal details yet absolute accuracy. And funny viral memes involving animals.
For me its Control. It's just such a moody, subliminal and stunningly written game. I consider The Oldest House to be a character, not a place. The game and its universe (its game design too) has probably had both conscious and involuntary influence in my work all the time.
For me the two biggest ones are no doubt Bloodborne and Mirrors Edge when it comes to games. They both have such and incredibly impeccable art direction and strong sense of style. Almost polar opposites in terms of what defines them visually but both just outstanding in their own way.
KOTOR 2 has always been a high point of the Star Wars franchise for me, a game I vividly remember playing for the first time, one I unpopularly at the time felt was far superior to its predecessor, and a piece of Star Wars media matched only in recent years by the likes of THE LAST JEDI and ANDOR
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (Obsidian/LucasArts) was released 19 years ago today.
It was Obsidian's very first game, made in just over a year, and what a game it was! Even if we had to wait for a fan mod to get the full adventure, it remains one of my favorite SW games.
It took me a long time to "get" Twitter as well, Christine! But like you, I was patient & kept learning along the way. I still post on other platforms as well, but one of my goals in 2024 is to simplify my life...and that includes my social media time.
I had one 2 nights ago where I went to the post office to post a package and I had to write who I was sending it to on a form and I wrote hamas as the woman at the counter was watching me and I was trying to sort of hide the name and well it was a weird dream ngl
This was the first thing I bought when I had access to my own money as a teen. The FIRST thing. Biggest giveaway I was an autistic in disguise! (My special interest at the time was horses…) It helped me mask and literally survive, but I’m now not a fan of being in situations where I must mask.
I'm so genuinely torn on whether to watch the Netflix atla because I'm the one hand I'd like to form my own opinion on it as a piece of media, but at the same time I could watch the original instead and be guaranteed a good time
When I was young, learning the mechanic of putting pencil to paper to give the things in my mind a physical form, Scud was the first time I saw a character and thought “I want my OWN cool character!” and from that day forward I plagiarized everything I loved and called it an original idea.
I’m finally done the first Dark Tower! My first Stephen King book as well, I loved it and I can’t wait to read the next one. The combination of post-apocalyptic, fantasy, and light horror work so well together.
I was Republican for a while, and it was always "well, I'm republican except for [litany of things that didn't align]."it took me until the later Obama years to realize that I was not, in fact, a Republican and was just having trouble leaving the inertia of my parents' influence on my own.
Remember one Dutch company I worked for a couple years back. It was my first day at work, I was the only Black person in a team of 5, and the manager decided to take me and the team out for dinner, after my first day of work.
