Wow. I’m blown away by the warm welcome and enthusiastic welcome to Bluesky - thank you!
A bit more about me - firstly my #photography: I’m fascinated by #insects and their ecology. They really are the most wonderful and interesting animals when you get to know them!

Thanks for having me Tony, I have hundreds of red squirrel 🐿️ photos and will be delighted to share them with #ukwildlife…
With lakes, ponds and streams close by, this cute #moorhen is a regular visitor in my #IsleofWight garden #birds #ukwildlife
Day 4 of the 2023 #dragonfly #AdventCalendar. Time for our first damselfly and it's the Large Red, which is generally the earliest to emerge each year in April. This one was at Wiltshire Wildlife Trust's Ravensroost Meadows, in early June. #DragonflyAdventCalendar #invertebrates #ukwildlife
Good morning and welcome to a new week! I do think squirrels are adorable ☺️ Who can resist this face?! 🤎🐿️🤎 #ukwildlife #animals #wildlife #cute
Dipper on River Browney, Durham, today. We are lucky to be able to watch this regular bird only a few hundred metres from our home. 🪶#ukbirding #ukwildlife
Deleting some photos, I came across this one (which I’m keeping) of a Brown-line Bright-eye and a photo-bombing Hawthorn Shieldbug.

Dawn Chorus on the farm featuring Lesser Whitethroat, this species and Common Whitethroat are very successful breeders on the farm with up to 10 pairs each spring, thanks in large part to the mature hedgerows throughout #birds #ukbirding #ukwildlife

Day 3 of the 2023 #dragonfly #AdventCalendar. Today's photo is a Common Clubtail. Despite the name they're not at all common. They like large, slow-flowing rivers. This one was by the Thames at Goring in late May. #DragonflyAdventCalendar #invertebrates #ukwildlife
About three inches snow in our garden in Durham just now. I met this Blackbird further down the road during this morning’s 🐕 walk. 🪶#ukbirding #ukwildlife
Chilly old morning again. Few shots from Haughmond Hill #ukwildlife #birds
Day 2 of the 2023 #dragonfly #AdventCalendar and today we have a Keeled Skimmer, a classic species of bogs and wet heaths throughout the UK. This one was at the wonderful Devon Wildlife Trust reserve at Bystock Pools in August. #DragonflyAdventCalendar #invertebrates #ukwildlife

I found a lone hawfinch in our village but it flew off before I could get a decent shot but happy to finally get a male bullfinch with spread wings what a gorgeous bird!

So per the latest Birds of Conservation Concern 5 from 2021 there are 10 red listed and 13 amber listed species which breed on the farm, added together being nearly half of all breeding species. This helps to consider management of habitat for birds and other wildlife #birds #ukbirding #ukwildlife
The farm bird list is now 93 species but this doesn't mean a great deal. Broken down by BoCC;
23 are red listed (10 breed), 25 Amber (13), 45 Green (27). 50 breeding spcs. 8 moved to amber from 2015 - 2021, but amber breeding birds increased from 8 to 13 spcs in the same period. So some good news.
