In March 1941, German engineers used engines taken from the Bloch MB.174/175 to propel the Messerschmitt Me 323 cargo aircraft.
22nd April 1943: ‘The Cap Bon Massacre’. Kittyhawks of the South African Air Force and RAF, covered by Spitfires, intercepted a formation of 14 Messerschmitt 323 ‘Gigant’ transport aircraft off Tunisia. All were shot down, with only 19 of the 119 German pilots and crewmen aboard later being rescued.
