I used to teach physical intervention and restraint. I cannot express how utterly unsurprising this is. *Any* restraint carries a risk of death. When you're sedating someone and affecting their breathing, of course the risk of death is going to skyrocket.

The death penalty is — from my point of view — unreformable because it’s categorically impossible to prevent improper outcomes and the execution of innocent people. The state does not /have/ to murder people in institutional custody, it /chooses/ to.

It's a risk assessment, and what level of risk you are willing to accept. Nothing is absolute.
Some people are unmasked 100%.
Others are masked 100%.
Some will be masked only in high-risk settings...
Having excellent air quality reduces the risk of getting infected. It doesn't eliminate it.

And people must be given a choice. The mask shaming in Europe is extreme and people are forced back into the office (even though that is not sustainable in terms of traffic jams and pollution either). The risk of infection in medical settings is extreme.

Despite what some people seem to think, the COVID vaccines and boosters are still doing an incredibly good job of reducing incidence of COVID in folks who are vaccinated and even better at reducing the risk of serious illness or death.

The problem is that not many people are getting them any more.
