What's your majority ancestry
What's your majority ancestry
Hm. I think I only have a plurality. Great-grandparents: Dutch-American, Dutch-American, Dutch-American, WASP-American, Polish Pole, Austro-Hungarian Pole, Saxony German, Bavaria German.
So like me, white with white and some heavy lashing of white.
Yup. 23&me asserts that I have a tiny smidge of Congolese/Angolan ancestry, which I suppose isn't impossible, but it's *such* a tiny smidge.
Translucent here. Like a block of paraffin.

My people, my fellow Elmer's-Americams, have you heard the good news about SPF opera gloves?

Which I do....oh I do...
I almost glow in the dark.
Yeah, recent Scottish/French-German on one side, absolute unmitigated Nell on the other, bearing English and German-Welsh names.
I tried that for a while, but everyone told me I was Polish.
It's bourgeois and white-coded to have a potted, "pure" European ancestry. Being ethnically an American is disconcerting weirdo behavior.
Dutch guy: "Your Dutch sounds kind of German."
Me: "I'm sorry."
Dutch guy: "Does your German sound normal?"
Me: "Back I spoke it, it probably sounded like American high school Spanish."
"That's funny."
"Not for the Germans trying to understand it."
"I know, that's why it's funny."
As a "white" American of Polish, Irish, Sicilian, and Jewish ancestry, I can say that the people who called my ancestors slurs at Ellis Island most definitely didn't think of them as white, but here we are.
my mother's grandmother was Native American but i otherwise have no connection to that part of my ancestry.
and nearly every African American with a century or more of lineage here has a European bloodline, but black oppression & white supremacy make it difficult to embrace.
I made a post about doing 23 & me or ancestry DNA test to find out our roots and my uncle said we had a lot of Native American in our ancestry turns out he was full of shit. White as white can be.
And as the only interesting record of white resistance I could find, I culturally appropriated the Pennsylvania Dutch of the American Revolution.
It's so funny, when one look at white American cuisine like Pennsylvania Dutch stuff is full of genuine culinary horrors
yes i am! and dutch kinda sounds like a weird baby of german + english to me, i have studied a bit of german and english is my birth language so i am hoping i will be able to pick dutch up alright
My partner is Dutch and I grew up in a place deeply confused about it's German heritage and took six years of it. Spoken Dutch sounds to me like a German having a stroke.
As an American white suburbanite I dont even have like, any culture stemming from me besides like, some italian-american things from my moms side, so I just think it's neat when people have like, slang and shit :>
oh trust me it was less about giving credit to the Dutch and more a reflection of the inherent dutchness of the white american
I grew up calling them German Pancakes but my dad called them something in Dutch that I think translated to Dutch Baby, but then my American friends call it Hootenanny
As an American with Dutch heritage I have all of the downsides of being Dutch with none of the benefits. 🙃
Ah, it's crow o'clock outside.
Here, have some Dutch prog with American singer:

www.youtube.comI feel bad liking this but it's a) true and b) I'm giving an American German citizenship so I feel like some of his US citizenship rubs off on me so I'm honorary American
Yep, they are American kunts pretending they have German ancestry as a personality.
I'm American-Dutch, but I was living here with a partner involved in politics during the rise and fall of LPF so I at least have a contemporary view.
I can’t believe he’s an american named hans. Like, maybe i’m too sheltered but that’s crazy to me esp if ur parents aren’t both like dutch/danish/german/whatever. When i picture a hans i think of like, the one little german boy. “Oh mein gott!!”
Yes!! I think the American accent was created by the English colonists joining Dutch colonists on the island of Manhattan, and creating our specific accent. When I hear Dutch people speaking Dutch it sounds so much like American English that I think I should understand them.
the English language is based just enough on Dutch that everything you might say in Dutch sounds like someone making fun of Dutch
Tell me you’re a white American without telling me you’re a white American.
Police bodycam captures traffic stop marriage proposal
Officers helped with staging the surprise proposal, pulling over the couple in Wisconsin.
www.bbc.co.ukI just learned that the 'Dutch' in "Dutch Baby" is meant to be 'Deutsch'; as in German Pancake. Like a reverse of German Chocolate Cake.
i'm exaggerating a little bit but i do feel like it's american recipes specifically that love specifying a weird kind of salt, more than dutch recipes

we've had 46 presidents, ALL of whom were male, 43 of whom were white anglo protestant (two were white anglo-dutch protestant), two white anglo-irish catholics, and a multi-culti black man not descended from American slaves.
How about a Native American president?
