#NowWatching Desperately Seeking Susan (1985). This is plotted like a mistaken identity farce, but the tone is more of a hang-out movie. But I liked it! The style and all the real-life locations kept things interesting.

Desperately Seeking Susan is a just ok movie but with a stellar vibe.
This is such a fun theme, Portland film fam! 1985 comedies, scifi , action, romcom gal pal adventures like “Reanimator”, “The Stuff”, “Commando”, “Desperately Seeking Susan”…

Tonight's movie is *Desperately Seeking Susan* (1985), starring Rosanna Arquette, Aiden Quinn, John Turturro, and Madonna in her first acting role. Never seen it before, which I guess makes me a poor Gen Xer?
Audiences would've lost their collective minds in 1985, but in hindsight I think we can all agree, it was a mistake for Madonna to shave her pits for Desperately Seeking Susan.
"Desperately Seeking Susan"... eh. I'm not really sure why this is on the list. Arquette was great, but the story was supposed to be "madcap fun", but it just kept circling the drain. Madonna as the title character was enh.
4/8
After Hours (1985), Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), and Muppets Take Manhattan (1984) all take place in the same universe.
I don't know if it qualifies as a genre but I've found myself seeking out and enjoying movies from the '70s where New York City seems just awful. Not even Taxi Driver-type stuff, movies like The French Connection and various Larry Cohen films where all the restaurants are brown and vile-looking.
tragedy (nixon), farce but kind of a sharply satirical one (reagan), farce but its like a scary movie style parody (W), farce but it's one of those over-the-top-gory horror movies like TERRIFIER (Trump)
i liked this movie for the most part but all the shining recreation stuff is a real faceplant
Desperately Seeking Susan (1985, dir. Susan Seidelman)
I can't remember the last time I watched a good movie, but this is probably a byproduct of the fact that I am deliberately seeking out and watching nothing but the worst movies I can find.

Desperately Seeking Susan has become one of my favorite movies and this Thomas Newman piece is a delight

the original is like this obviously but I just can't get over how it's plotted exactly like a romcom. it feels even more obvious in the movie
PSA: Desperately Seeking Susan is on TVNZ+. For anyone too young to understand the charisma of mid-80s Madonna.
Early Madonna is in my head and it’s not getting out so I’m releasing it into the universe. From the OST of Desperately Seeking Susan- here is ‘Get into the Groove’ m.youtube.com/watch?v=52iW...

m.youtube.comI've been pausing Desperately Seeking Susan (1985, Dir. By. Susan Seidelman) to look at all the clothes, shoes, and sets. I don't often get homesick or nostalgic for much of the 1980s, but some things were pretty exciting. I think I'll make another 18th c. linen shirt, but one with a ruffled front.

The pop-tart movie is a farce. Kind of like the Weird Al movie except not very funny.
I might have liked it if it had come out in 1989.
This is a little out of the mainstream , but it would be a dull world if we all liked the same things. #1999songs

youtu.beFurthermore, art style in tandem with lighting and angles and all the other film language is inherently going to be superior when done right than having all those other things but forced into the “art style” of real life. Real life is inherently a limitation that art style breaks out of.
Watching Desperately Seeking Susan for the first time and Madonna really is an insufferable actress. Like you can tell she loves herself and it’s irritating.
Silence is my favorite of the movies, but I liked Red Dragon more out of the books.
