It was the first and only game I wanted the 64's RAM expansion module for
The "AI" is not the most reliable but it so far errs on false negatives and does so by pausing, which can be cleared and resumed from the remote monitoring, so, that's alright. My old machine had quite a few prints go spaghetti and that had a high likelihood of burning out the nozzle. This is better
The new one is a Creality K1C. It's 4x faster, quieter, enclosed and with a full metal hotend so it can use just about any filament, auto-leveling, PEI flexible magnetic bed instead of textured glass, camera for remote viewing and "AI" obstruction and spaghetti detection, better touch screen UI, etc
Though let me say I am pretty proud of dismantling, purging, and rebuilding the hotend on this old fella. This one may be fussy, but it's satisfyingly "smacks the jukebox" to keep running
I played the single player campaign I don't know how many dozens of times, and logged hundreds of hours in the multiplayer system since I could do it co-op with my friends against bots. It took everything that was good about Goldeneye 64 and made it so, so much more.
Perfect Dark is easily the game I've logged the most hours in.... ever. Not even close. I was already excited to try this new reboot because it actually looks fun, but now I'm 1000% in on it.
That does imply:
1) The tolerances on these Alden-74s were pretty wide
2) This particular one was always a lemon with a -/- tolerance combo that moves the entire thing out of usable tolerance.
I _think_ based on the most minute examination of the two its down to the pegs that press the film down against the sprocket that are molded into the door. The ones on the faulty one are much shorter. I've been 3d-printing clones of the door and as I make the pegs longer each behaves better.
"Well what's different between it and the other one?"
I fucking don't know! They look the same?
"Well something's gotta be different!"
Right?!?!
I am absolutely, completely stymied on why one of my Alden-74's counts film perfectly and the other seems to wind on about 25% more film than it counts because the sprockets constantly slide off the counting gear.
[500 pages later] ... and with the princess rescued and the day saved I finally tried my first baked ziti, which is made by taking...
I have hit one of those points with the Leica 35mm Summaron f3.5 where I'm trying to justify copies that really aren't justifiable purchases just because I'm getting kinda itchy to own one.
The Ansco Memo II (Ricoh Auto Half, but with focus) was well worth-repairing. Fantastic damn lens. Picked up a light leak after the repair though. I'll seal the tripod bushing with liquid electrical tape and if that doesn't do it I'll have to... sigh.... replace the foam seals.
1) This is a fun photo
2) the right side of the frame is a brilliant example of the Summar glow.

That's hawt. My best example of this is an unidentified French Rapid Rectilinear 4x5 lens I found in a junk bin. Haze etched and drop-impact balsam separation. The pic of it is _after_ cleaning. Takes pretty photos though, it's one of my favorite 4x5 macro choices.
‘I want to do things the hard way. It’s my favorite way. If it doesn’t feel like work how do you even know you’re having fun?’
You can tell which of the early high-speed lenses had soft front elements real easy once you see enough copies come in. The Summar and the original Summicron were both really bad about this.
My OM 85mm f2 has some kinda edge delamination on one internal element. You can't see it through the finder or on photos. Knocked the price down as low as the cruddy hazed ones though.
Yes. They're actually really fine scratches, hard to see clearly without removing the front cell like this. Scratched front elements on Summars are super common, and I just wanted to show that scratches affect image quality way less than hazing does.
This Summar is still a really pretty thing in the right circumstances. Even with a front element covered in very fine cleaning scratches. I'll take a lens with fine scratches over one with haze any day.
The baking soda was apparently too fine an abrasive, so, moving up now to pumice soap. First pass seems hopeful.
Half forgot I do have another Alden 74 already, but the frame counter on it is gummy and unreliable (to say the least). Maybe I'll spend today working an abrasive slurry into there until it loosens up and works right.
wait you mean candy corn is ALIVE
This shot with the Ferrania P30 and the Summar, however, came out slightly more horror than I even intended.
As expected the Ferrania P30 was a fairly low-yield roll this time. But I got this, and boy is this a great example of how that old uncoated Summar can look on a sharp and contrasty film stock more like what was current when the Summar was made.

Predictably (but reassuringly) the roll on Double-X came out very normal and proper. Double-X is such good.
I think I've shot enough now to make the call that all of Ferrania's films have slow shadows; I think I'll downrate all of them when shooting to compensate. Dev variances don't matter nearly as much as exposure variances seem to.
Lotta real thin negatives. In the past I've been surprised how many of those actually scan up on these slow, high contrast stocks but... we'll see in the morning. About half the roll has pretty normal density though, so, we'll get something.
High contrast film, low contrast lens. In theory it sounds like a beneficial combination.
Alright now let’s see how this Ferrania P30 and my Summar play together.
'Zoom with your feet' is fantastic advice if you happen to want to do one very specific style of street and event photography. Unfortunately for most people trotting it out, those are pretty edge cases within the whole of 'what people do with cameras'
He ran a photo business so I'd check in on him from time to time because his photos were so, so bad. I won't mock any hobbyist over their photos—we all have different goals and are different points on the journey—but anyone selling their work as a service is open game for active judgment.
I once got in an argument with a guy there over his insistence to a newbie that gray was the only good sweep color for seamless white through to seamless black, and that despite my evidence otherwise white wouldn't also work. I tried to soft out with 'we can both be right' and he said 'no we can't.'
Photography Reddit is a prime example of the toxic boys club, not gonna lie. My favourite ever Reddit comment was 'zoom with your feet, not with your lens' on this photo (with specs). I politely checked whether they were familiar with the concept of a lion
A little late this year but I finally fixed the flat on the Centurion and took it out for a quick ride
Today’s #MenderRevealParty win is replacing the failed tripod bushing in my Ansco Memo II with a modified, beefier one from its full-frame Ricoh Hi-Color 35 counterpart.
Hey didja know if you largely follow me for the photos that I post _even more_ of them over on IG? Like, seriously, I take so many photos. Y'all don't even know. LR says I'm at about 8,000 so far just this year alone.

www.instagram.comBefore I go hunting in the wilds, anyone got an Alden-74 loader they'd be willing to part with? I use Leica cassettes so it's gotta be a Alden/Watson type, the Lloyds don't help me much.
Apparently I need another bulk roll already. Maybe instead of deciding if I'm going with Delta 400 or XX the correct solution is a second loader so I can have both?
