Received this via a giveaway, Four Eids and a Funeral by Faridah รbรญkรฉ-รyรญmรญdรฉ & Adiba Jaigirdar. It's my first fiction read for June, and I'm smitten by Laddoo the orange cat - such a purrfect name ๐ญ๐งก
Took some steps this week in new directions. It was scary, but I said yes where I can. Making space for grief & rage within care routines is easier said than done, but must be done. Here's a #wip illustration I'm hoping to get back to once I catch up on rest ๐ต
There's cara.app - it has a No AI policy which I appreciate. There's also ArtStation and Behance which I see used often for displaying galleries/portfolios.
Cara is a social and portfolio platform for the entertainment art industry.
cara.appTryina cheer myself up from terrifying flare-ups. A #wip sketch of SanBun sleeping in this new position. Irl she's been in a soft collar for allergy reasons - I drew her without it for anatomical practice. #illustration #petportrait
Looking for community, not competition ๐
Does anyone know a friendly writing community that works to be respectful of BIPOC and divergent lived realities?
^ we need each other for this to happen, to soothe the many ways our lived stories may trigger each other, and all the ways we can create something powerful together. First step can be the hardest: Don't give up.
Let it be so that when we say 'Asian,' we're not pandering to white male/patriarchal fetishization or erasure based on skintone. Let it be so that when we say Asian we're making space for all of us to find and create opportunities for each of us to be heard, seen, and cherished.
Part of decolonizing is honing the ability to listen to someone's lived experiences, their unique challenges, to not deny them their reality and make *space* for them. We become a powerful ecosystem only when we embrace diverse experiences.
Break up with colonial perspectives, plz, it's long overdue. Understand that as Asians we do not share the same challenges, regardless how governments & man-made systems label our paper identities. They don't define us, we do.
There's a lot of undocumented traumas that take place in BIPOC creative spaces due to colorism, for the skin you're born in and how the white man has labeled it. We don't talk about how to make space for this complexity, and so many suffer in isolation.
Plz don't talk about honoring Asian creators this month without some awareness and countering of the vapid colorism, echoing colonial sentiments, that keep darker-skinned Asians invisible and undervalued in many creative circles.
Practice. Cloud study 090524.
Rising and dipping, and then rising and dipping again with these flare/recovery cycles. A bit of whimsy is always soothing. #art #clouds #kidlitart #illustration #dragon
Titled this piece 'Monday's Blue' out of sheer mischief. I'm really happy with how this one turned out. Prints available here: www.inprnt.com/gallery/bydh...

Braved myself out of the bedrest for errands and a quiet sit-down. Now to recharge. Here's hoping this round of flare-ups eases up on me soon ๐ต
Love this collection โจ
Spend enough time in any persona, it becomes a part of you. I see how 'for entertainment purpose' is historically used to excuse behaviors - at the verg least, observing these practices has helped me figure out my boundaries w media
Mostly bedrest this week for me. Thinking about quiet times in nature, here's a sketch I made at a beach under the shade of a magnificent tree ๐ต

Agreed! I'll save my attention span for kinder storytellers ๐ฑ
I can't tolerate folks/platforms who make it seem like it's a weakness to be respectful of others. No matter how "cool" they're supposed to be. F* cool, give me warm soup vibes instead.
I can't watch them anymore tbh, but I enjoyed the format of the show

Hi, is this an online class? I'm interested but timing might not work for me - thought I'd check in anyway in case you might offer this again. Thanks!
Yes, that's a huge part of what I mean by divergent. Thank you for responding. I'm keen to check out the Discord - is there a page somewhere where I can read your community guidelines before joining?

*deep breaths* Thank you, btw, if you read this with a kind heart. And if you resonated with this, I see you. I see us. We deserve the love we need ๐
All the ways family has failed you echoing in all the ways community keeps failing you. It's too much, where is the repair, for forgiveness to even exist? Sometimes the only thing you learn from all your efforts is how to say, "No." [/Vent]
[vent] There's genuinely no way to recover from watching your own mother leave you as you're paralyzed in bed from unbearable pains. There's nothing that says that is okay esp after enduring decades of abuse and severe neglect...
This year's Mother Day has me feeling like the blue in flames - ragingly restless, ready to cook or destroy. Giving myself permission to not celebrate, while soothing in the gratitude for the femmes & aunties, mother/sister figures who are checking up on me at this time.

That sounds blissful! Also yay for knitting ๐งถ I got into crochet recently - I know it's not the same, hehe, but I get excited now with anything involving yarn. Moreso than my cat!
Needing interaction's the biggest reason I'm still on these platforms tbh. Hello! Hope your week's flowing by with lots of care and nourishment ๐ฑ๐ต
