Quite the fancier of podcasts, chemistry & science history. Favourite element: Ta. Previously award winning brewer. Also home brewer. Outsider in Cumbria.
Only a few bottles of my NZ Brut IPA left, which I need to save for the next homebrew club meeting up. Very happy with this one.
You know when you post something that you think is stupid & funny, then later think "did I overstep the mark?". Thanks for clarifying it wasn't just stupid.
Is there anything on that maritime disaster in WWII when the Japanese bombed Poole Harbour?
I am looking to add new quizzers for my group. Video quiz, on a Tuesday at 20:00, approx every other week, everyone supplies ten questions (any format), lasts about an hour & a half.
I failed this puzzle partly because homophones work better if you know how to pronounce what it's supposed to sound like😃
One of my clues was to think of that chap sat in his pants in the launderette on the jeans advert.
Three years ago I wrote one of my favourite quizzes - alas not one of the quiz groups favourite. Name the super famous Motown songs from the first letters of the opening lines...
I remember Sarah Kennedy on her super early radio show talking about American chain coffee shops with their massive drinks (albeit in London) "I wanted a coffee, not assume the role of camel".
Saw one of my favourite budget beers was back in Lidl, checked the date - only 10 weeks old assuming a 1 year BBE - & got one. Clear, bitter, orange marmalade hoppiness & malt. As good as many WCIPAs twice the price.
16 litres with a gravity at bottling of 1.002, making it 4.2% ABV.
Bottling my Brut Hefeweizen with bergamot this afternoon. Was worried the AMG enzyme might make the beer clear, but no problems at this stage. Tastes like a lemony Heffe at this stage, meaning so far so good.
I don't know much about art, but I know what I like. New flavour Proper Job IPA. Thanks again to Richard Keys for being the hand model.
Aldi Belgian Blonde beer. Tastes just like a regular Belgian Blonde beer - candyfloss, a little Juicy Fruit bubblegum, coriander seed, but despite these flavours not actually *that* sweet.
Leave the oats out, add AMG enzyme to the fermenter - completely unbalanced in its dryness. Brut WCIPA. Lovely.
Been seeing this everywhere, but in multipacks. Found a single one in Home Bargains & was justified in holding out. It's like smoothflow Tetley bitter, but for the most pedestrian of stouts.
Sure if they call it something else, so I can avoid it. Oats on the allergens list means "sweet beer" to me & I'm not a fan of sweet beer.
I've seen a few WCIPAs where I've picked them up & seen oats on the allergens list - no thanks, that's not a WCIPA. At least I can sort those out before parting with any money.
Faux WCIPA needs to get it's own name. Maybe Wheat COats IPA😃
I rib craft brewers for getting their inspiration from Swizzles-Matlow, but I got my sugar syrup from Lidl.
Beer put to bed in a fermenter under the stairs. Dosed the AMG enzyme into the fermenter to make another brut beer. Brut Hefeweizen is a thing, yeah?
My only reservation is the potassium sorbate, but hopefully it is just enough keep the bergamot preserved & won't affect the beer yeast.
Brewing Hefeweizen this morning in the garden. 40% wheat malt, 30% pale malt, 30% extra pale malt. Hallertauer Blanc in the boil, Mittelfruh as dry hops.
I sometimes look at clouds & think that even if I painted them perfectly, everyone would agree that clouds don't look like that.
I have a joke about Tantalus. The punchline is amazing. It really is. You'll love it.
If anyone is interested in joining the West Coast Homebrewers, we are loosely based on the coast of Cumbria, meet up for homebrew chat & bottle swaps. Some of the folk have impressively engineered kit & I brew in a tea urn & buckets.
We did get a nice walk down to Crummock Water this morning. We usually go late in the evening, so it was novel to see the sun on the opposite faces of the mountains.
What about sugar adding a flavour? Or do you think that's incidental to adjusting strength & colour?
Dipped into The Lakes again this morning but left it too late. At 08 :00 it was heaving & vehicles abandoned near Rannerdale. Will try again late Sunday evening when all the tourists are safely on the M6.
