new article! i've written an in depth piece about how british critical psychiatry (of the bourgeois variant) has been increasingly co-opted by radical conservatives - and how this has enabled the new tory assault on disabled people.

knowing that aaron bushnell was neurodivergent and committed to anti-ableism imo provides important context to his resistance to what the "ruling class has decided will be normal". we must recognize and remember this.

the other 90% is constantly being exploited in multiple subtle ways to generate capital for billionaires

Hello! Very boring request but if you enjoyed Empire of Normality and bought it anywhere you can leave a rating, I'd really appreciate you doing that. Radical books don't often get reviewed in the mainstream so this really helps! Anyway here's Marcel and Esme:

happy new year everyone! i've been struggling with long COVID fatigue recently so haven't been able to keep up with correspondence but just want to say i'm so grateful to everyone spreading the word about empire of normality. overwhelmed and hugely grateful.
I remember he reviewed a book on neurodiversity with "magical" thinking in the title and took great offense at that term, not realizing that the term came not from the author but from medical model style psychoanalysis (I don't think he actually read the book)
Super excited to see your review and what you have to say!

EMPIRE OF NORMALITY: Neurodiversity and Capitalism is out today! It works towards a historical neurodivergent consciousness - to show how neurodivergent liberation is bound up with collective liberation & why our struggle must be against capital & empire. tiny.cc/nkwevz
Here is one of his lesser known, but most innovative articles, from 97 - and the first time "neurological diversity" appeared in print. Here he went behind just reporting on these ideas, instead synthesizing them with existing theory in new ways.

Thanks David good points! I think of Mad Power as a tool for working towards Mad Liberation, so it's not one or the other but both.
