5.4 - The Enemy of the World - The hidden gem of the season. I always enjoyed the audio but seeing it was a revelation. Troughton as Salamander is so different from the Doctor. It has a strong guest cast. And the twists are fantastic. And what an ending! 10/10
Any of my followers live in Wales?
Unfortunately Jacob turned around to me today and randomly said, "Daddy, I think Wales is going to be flooded."
He hath spoken...
GY10K done! I was two seconds faster than last year, although the chip time and my Strava time are a little bit out. It felt good and I’m really impressed with my pace. I feel like I could go again!😁
Now I’ve got to push forward and build for the half marathon in September.
Busy day tomorrow as I’m running the GY10K, so an early start. 🏃♂️
Oh and I’ll have that podcast news as well.
Goodnight all! 😴
5.3 - The Ice Warriors - I love the film sequences in the ice caves and the Warriors are great. Love the music too. But Victoria is insufferable in this episode, and personally it’s two episodes too long. Having said that it’s still a decent story. 7/10
Half Marathon Training: Run 226 -
“I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I'm miserable now”
Yesterday’s gentle 5K run in the sunshine. I’ve got the GY10K tomorrow so I needed to take it steady. 😁
In part two of my chat with Lucy (@lucymccaul.bsky.social) we continue the discussion on her favourite era and discuss the creatives of Doctor Who...

5.2 - The Abominable Snowmen - A story I was never keen on, but I really quite enjoy it now. It was the animation that won me over. The Yeti are cute and cuddly but also very deadly. There are some creepy moments in this too and I particularly like Khrisong’s journey. 7/10
I’ll keep it secret. I did as well. 😆 I used to work with the man who bought to copyright to the song.
Whistling the theme tune to Prisoner Cell Block H. Might be because I’ve just headed into a small side office without windows. Feels like a cell.
Haha. It’s a hangover from when I used to start at 6am. I’d go for my break at 11.30 and I guess it just stuck.
5.1 - The Tomb of the Cybermen - A solid season opener. There are some iffy casting choices, but I love the mystery leading up to the opening of the tomb . The scene with the Doctor and Victoria is lovely, but Jamie feels a bit underused. 8/10
Probably one of my favourite songs, but you'll likely never hear it on the radio sadly.

Cyndi Lauper - All Through the Night
It’s a classic! Thankfully no videos of me exist dancing to this. 🤣
I had a sponge to use as a pillow! It worked surprisingly well. 😁
“Some people say I look like my dad
Oh, ohhh
Hey, hey!”
(And now it’s stuck in your head too. Side note, I once knackered my feet up attempting Irish dancing in a nightclub)
My response to the southern siren who thought she’d caught me by an open grave!
Half Marathon Training: Run 225 - Just a 5K for my day off. In my picture the caption reads “Jim Says Do More Running”. I slept for 7 hours last night, longer than I usually would so I was utterly knackered (weird how more sleep makes me feel worse). I feel better now though! 😁
It’s definitely up there as one of the greatest Dalek stories. I’d love episode 7 to turn up one day!
Season 4 rankings:
1/ The Power of the Daleks (10)
2/ The Evil of the Daleks (10)
3/ The Moonbase (8)
4/ The Tenth Planet (8)
5/ The Macra Terror (7)
6/ The Underwater Menace (7)
7/ The Faceless Ones (7)
8/ The Smugglers (7)
9/ The Highlanders (7)
4.9 - The Evil of the Daleks - What an epic finale to the season! It’s a 7-parter that works because of its variety. The Emperor is a stunning design. The Daleks are frightening. Scenes linger long in the memory, and the animation is superb. It’s a true classic. 10/10
And you really didn’t think it would happen
But it really is the end of the line
So I’m sorry that you turned to driftwood
But you’ve been drifting for a long, long time
Whenever she's feeling empty
Whenever she's feeling insecure
Whenever her face is frozen
Unable to fake it anymore
Her shadow is always with her
Her shadow could always keep her small
So frightened that he won't love her
She builds up a wall

What the hell…I haven’t picked up my guitar for a while so I’m a bit rusty, but here’s me singing “Daydream Believer” ☺️

Look at me with starry eyes
Push me up to starry skies
There's stardust in my head
Pure and simple every time
Fresh and deep as oceans new
Shiver at the sight of you
I'll sing a softer tune
Pure and simple over you
4.8 - The Faceless Ones - It commits the crime of unceremoniously dumping Ben and Polly, but at the same time it’s the birth of the Doctor/Jamie double act. And what a shame Sam didn’t become a companion! A strong cast of characters too. A little long but lots of fun! 7/10
It’s sorted! Turns out two wires were touching behind a socket. A two minute job and it was fixed!
Ah, yes. Just what I need - sockets in the kitchen keep blowing and tripping the switch every 30 minutes, and the letting agents emergency number is not responding.
Could I possibly, one day, have some peace on a bank holiday weekend?

One of my favourite songs. “Let Your Shoulder Fall” was released back in 2001 by Matthew Jay, who tragically died two years later at the age of 24.
I’m lucky I got to see him live. RIP Matthew.
