Happy Pride, friends. This is from when I went to San Francisco Pride. It was, ugh, about 10 years ago.
Okay. I went outside. SUPed a bit then sat on the beach and listened to an audiobook while my partner finished kayaking.
Okay. I’m going. Will post photos.
My partner is going for a short kayak today and I kind of feel like I SHOULD go with her and try out my SUP, but it's kind of grey and I'm not sure I want do. My default tends to be 'I wanna stay home' but going outside is good for me? This is the eternal Christine dilemma.
Part of the issue is that we have a social thing tonight and then another TWO social things tomorrow and then I also have choir practice tomorrow. But going out on the SUP is not social, so might be good actually.

I thought you'd also enjoy the Texas connection. That tabby was a Genuine Texas Stray that I helped trap and taught to be an indoor cat. :)
I was looking for an old photo, which I couldn't find, but stumbled across this picture of me giving my first ever cat some ice cream. Photo ca. 1979. I, very creatively, named the cat "Red Cat." (cc: @catsofyore.bsky.social)
I just spent a long time trying to find a ridiculous old photo of my last cat sleeping on a pile of my stuffed animals, ET style, but couldn't. So, instead, here is a photo of him contemplating a stuffed armadillo that is about his size (purchased at the Lady Bird Wildflower Center).
I hope that this brings you two back in touch (and that the reason that you haven't spoken in decades is just that life is complicated and not that there are REASONS)!
Oh, I love Linda Holmes.
How long have I intended to have a newsletter? Forever! When did I finally write one? Now! Please subscribe if you like. buttondown.email/linda.holmes...
Oh, hi I’ve been meaning to do this for some time, and it hasn’t come together. I promise that to my knowledge, you are getting this newsletter because you...
buttondown.emailUgh. Fucking UGH.
Benjamin Netanyahu has been invited to address a joint session of Congress with signatures from Schumer and Jeffries despite Democratic backlash.
I had no idea!
I've been using a Mac my entire adult life but was today years old when I learned you can do quarter-steps up or down on volume and brightness by holding Option-Shift.

Just did my first open water swim of the season! I forgot to take a photo, so here’s one from Monday (when I was just helping on the beach). #Vancouver
Honestly, what a fucking relief. (Yes, I know it won’t necessarily matter.)

They’re easy to miss when you’re driving. They’re on 33rd, just west of Victoria.
The big topiaries line the driveway but there are also small ones leading to the front door. Look at its little tail!!
There are these great topiaries on 33rd near Victoria in Vancouver. Last night I finally stopped to get a good picture of them. The owner of the house was outside: please make sure to zoom in on the first photo to see HOW PLEASED he looks that I’m appreciating his work. :)
I've been using digitalomnium.com/about/ for reccs. Both the DR-100 mk ii and Zoom H5 get really high marks. It may come down to what I can get locally. I'm going to go to a local audio place tomorrow and take a look at things.
I'd like to find an institutional home for the recordings, eventually, so they're actually archived somewhere.
I feel like I should be keeping things at archival quality, but maybe it doesn't matter. I'm going to be interviewing people in my neighborhood about the history of the neighborhood/city -- I feel like it's the kind of thing that could be useful for someone in the future.
I’m also concerned about future storage of the interviews. I’m doing this as a project of my own (no institution).
I know. It was already retweeted into that feed. I’m just also mutuals with a lot of historians so I didn’t bother.
Also, how large do the files end up being for, say, a 1 hour interview? I'm a little concerned about storage.
Alright oral historians, if I was going to get a nice but relatively easy to use recorder for oral histories, what should I get? I've seen reccs for the Zoom H5, but I'd love thoughts.
I've been reading "Permission to Feel," by Marc Brackett, and it's got some really useful stuff in it about learning how to recognize your own feelings (a problem that I also have).
They are definitely the most chaotic cats I’ve ever had. (My first of both varieties.)
