MPP grad student. Into culture, linguistics, cities, international development, history, architecture, walkability. Social science-ish account with funnies and cats. Arlington, VA. Gtown BSFS alumna
Gross. Neither of those was an awkward blunder or foot-in-mouth moment, or even a knee-jerk normie opinion before additional information got released. Those were ongoing multi-year decisions on purpose that hurt people!
And the one for gift articles! There are also a lot more of those accounts that automatically post pieces of old artwork either by artist or by museum
@joshuajfriedman.com has made some good ones, seeing photos from people’s walks is always a delight. Flower Report and Overheard are both fun too
Did you see the Next Door post where a bunch of people were commenting on how to deal with the nuisance of an overcrowded house but the OP was literally a photo of the Brady Bunch house
Wow I didn't know "anarchist" counts as a protected class of citizen now
Wow, a random small town in Oregon and it's gorgeous. Is this just what the PNW looks like on average?
The President of Georgia vetoed it. The parliament plans to override her.
The danger is in having a database of "foreign agents." That's straight from the Kremlin's playbook.
This is really sad. On the news they were interviewing protestors. One young woman in Tbilisi said "everything my grandparents and parents fought to win and built for decades, they just throw it all in the river"
I've been getting a lot of ads for looking for women under 30 to donate their eggs, and then they save half of the retrieval for the donor. The idea being that for women with a career, their eggs are best at the worst time in their lives to actually have a baby. So they can donate and save for later
Has anyone here donated their eggs? Or researched it and decided not to for some reason? Would love to hear thoughts.
Also one who said he goes way overboard the first few months of dating and then randomly inexplicably loses interest. He was genuinely quite frustrated because hoeing around is only fun for so long and that's not building an actual life, and hates this emotional rollercoaster. Also an ADHD trope.
One said "no, I never had problems with attention. In fact I typically get so deep into projects that I forgot that everything else exists, even when I was just a kid building something and lining everything up perfectly" 🤦♀️ my man, that's a trope
Been dating around for a few months and I am starting to think there are a lot of boys with ADHD who go undiagnosed (specifically inattentive) because they do well at school as well.
I can't imagine both surviving that AND not even getting crutches or a wheelchair. Because those items have been banned from humanitarian deliveries at border crossings. You must rely on family (whoever is still alive) to carry you. Not that there are smooth pavements to wheel on anymore.
I saw Dr. Hamawy speak on PBS NewsHour last night. He said he recently treated a child who lost both legs, one arm, and part of his other hand in an explosion. With minimal tools.
The death toll of children is staggering but there are several times more survivors with life-changing disabilities.
have you taken her on the metro yet? (since she’s been walking herself around, I mean)
from a couple months ago www.al.com/news/2024/03...
"We have a plan to address the Space Camp situation and we will address it next week," said State Rep. Mack Butler.
www.al.comIt’s really hard for the people who get relocated there though. I think the federal government would have to be robust in enforcing their anti-discrimination laws and ensuring the state government wouldn’t persecute marginalized employees and families, in exchange for the economic boost.
I didn’t know that about the oils! No wonder watercolors were so popular
Good point, I was mainly thinking of portraits, which had traditionally been painters’ source of income so they could do the fun projects.
Impressionism is a great example of painters seeing that they can’t compete with photography on depicting reality on technical level, but they DO beat it on depicting vibes
Lovely treat tonight to cap off a day spent in Yellowstone. Surprise northern lights pictured in Island Park, Idaho.
if my bottle of face cream container is too big for TSA but it is measured in grams, does it still count as a liquid ? does it count as a solid if measured in grams not fluid ounces?
What ever happened with the FAFSA meltdown? Did schools extend the decision deadline? Did they figure that out yet?
Reliably each hotel had an actual cost of at least $100+ per night more than the advertised price. Even trying to use priceline or other sites just gets you back down to the initial advertised price when all is said and done
I booked a hotel for friends visiting DC and wow is it different from five years ago. Dynamic airline pricing on steroids. Impossible to compare prices because the number on the map doesn’t include taxes and various fees. If Biden seriously made the junk fees a campaign issue he might get somewhere
Reading, comparing prices and characteristics of different products
I’ve heard it’s a big problem for people getting their Real ID as well, because your documents don’t match, and then they can’t get unsealed version from their birth state when the adopted parents are deceased.
Very true! I remember the world before Obama ran for president and remember the campaign, my brother who is just 2 years younger does not. I didn’t have a smartphone until my last year of high school, but my brother started high school with one.
I think there is something to be said for this cohort of students that grew up doing active shooter drills at school, actually learned how to build barricades and block doors from opening.
But yes just like 60 years ago, there are reactionary kids today as well, many to become reactionary adults.
