Here to gab about classic films and television, sports, music and a bit of art, photography, history, science and other subjects. Retired newspaper guy.
It's been a marvelous Sunday here. Well, except the part where my recumbent bike broke, I took it apart and can't fix it and now I have to get a new one. ๐
Always an adventure, this life.
If you love sports or movies or TV shows or WWE wrestling and don't subscribe to Peacock, here's your opportunity to get an entire year for just $19.99.

I haven't seen the sequel. I thought the first movie stood so well on its own that I didn't see the point. I may or may not see Day One.
I was reading something about MaxXxine being the 3rd in a trilogy where the survivor of the original bloodbath has become a famous porn star or something. ๐
Yep. Some sort of dark comedy fable. Not completely the same cast, obviously, but Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley are in it. Same director. And Jesse Plemons gets thrown into the mix. So far it's gotten mostly good reviews.
What are you looking forward to seeing this summer?

At the end of June, A Quiet Place: Day One opens. Not sure what to make of it. I really liked the original. Small film that held tension throughout. But the trailer for this one makes it seem more like an action blockbuster. So we'll see.
A new Beverly Hills Cop movie! ๐ฎ MaxXxine, a horror movie.
Maybe some of them got burned on a reverse mortgage? ๐คทโโ๏ธ
There are a couple of horror movies coming out. In a Violent Nature opened today. The Watchers next week.
Kinds of Kindness, the follow-up to Poor Things (same cast) opens in a few weeks. Smaller films like Treasure, Thelma & Daddio in June.โฌ๏ธ
Wow. Never underestimate Betty! Even though I've never seen an episode of the show, I'd have to vote for Betty. I despised Dallas and got so tired of the "Who Shot J.R.?" hoopla. ๐
I guess the next thing I'm looking forward to seeing is Inside Out 2. ๐
Then The Bikeriders, of course!
Absolutely. One of the most action-packed movies you'll see, but also a film with a compelling story, fantastic cinematography and very effective leads. And all those crazy Mad Max world vehicles. ๐
Finally made it out to see Furiosa yesterday in Cinemark XD. Entertaining origin story set against the stunning backdrop of the apocalyptic Australian Outback of the Mad Max universe. Chris Hemsworth has a great time hamming it up as the villainous Dementus. Theater almost empty. ๐คทโโ๏ธ

Very cool. Really a great way to help out these independent cinemas. Not just the ticket cost, but getting people into the theater and buying popcorn and snacks (which is where theaters make their money).
Pluto TV is sponsoring free movie weekends in some independent cinemas around the U. S. beginning in June. Pluto buys out the seats as though the theater is full and people who show up for the movie get in free. Cool idea to help independent theaters.

Pluto TV is well known for offering free movies, TV shows, and live channels online, but now they are bringing free movies to local theaters this summer. โThe project is a part of Plutoโs ongoing Busi...
cordcuttersnews.comThirty years from now it will be playing on whatever replaces cable TV. ๐
Maybe one of these days I'll watch an episode. I generally don't care for animation created for adults, but I do remember see a clip once of somebody switching back and forth between being angry watching Fox News and ogling women on the Fox Network. That was a kind of funny shot at Fox. ๐
I did enjoy it. Good thing I was there because almost nobody else was. Big XD theater and I was one of 4 people who showed up. ๐
Hemsworth was surely having a great time with that one. Anya Taylor-Joy's big-eyed stare suited the role.
It was really like that for me through the 90s too because I was usually out photographing ball games every night. I never saw Seinfeld until it went into syndication. I've still never seen an episode of The Simpsons! ๐
Heading out to see Furiosa in about 20 minutes. 12:05 (12:30) showing in XD.
That's one of my few quibbles about Bluesky. I'd love to do polls myself sometime! I've recently joined Threads to follow a lot of informational accounts that aren't on Bluesky, but I've found some movie/TV accounts to interact with. They do polls!
Love Betty, but haven't seen much of that show. ๐ฎ
Ah, OK. I'm familiar with those shows, but never really watched them.
Cheers is a really good show. I caught most of it once it got into syndication. I saw very little 80s TV when it originally aired. There were too many ball games and movies on the satellite dish!
Oh, wow. I'm not much of an authority on 80s TV, but that Picard-Magnum matchup intrigues me. Glad I don't have to choose on that one!
Absolutely no clue who David Addison or Rose Nylund were. Got so sick of the J.R. hoopla that I bought a button that said "I Shot J.R." Sometimes I wanted to. ๐
I've been in and out, but haven't spent much time on here. It's always good to see you guys!
That's cool. I'm more looking forward to it now.
And yep, those Marvel and DC superheroes had nothing on Billy Jack!
I'll be seeing Furiosa sometime this week. I should get the car back Tuesday, I guess. Tomorrow (well, today) is two weeks, but a holiday. ๐
Billy Jack was a huge counterculture icon when I was in junior high and the eponymous movie came out. Billy Jack kicking butt to help out the hippie school! ๐
Me too! Maybe if the big budget spectacles aren't profitable there will be less of them and more room in the multiplexes for the smaller films that I tend to like.
And yeah, all the biker films are fun. ๐
I'm hoping it's something along the lines of some of those B biker movies Jack Nicholson, Peter Fonda and Bruce Dern were doing in those days.
Was just listening to the What's On Disney Plus guy speculate that movies in cinemas may have to be shorter and less expensively made. I wouldn't mind that.
The Bikeriders is set among an outlaw motorcycle gang in the mid-1960s. It actually premiered last year at Telluride and the reviews for it are great. It was supposed to be in theaters last December, but was pushed back because of the strike (no promotion).
There are always a few nice surprises!
I'm looking forward to it.
Still not seeing much on the horizon to excite me at the moment aside from The Bikeriders. Probably the only other things I'm sure I'd like are Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4. ๐ But we'll see as the summer goes along. There will probably be some surprises (to me).
Cool. I do generally enjoy the Mad Max films (Road Warrior is my favorite). I had either heard or read somewhere that Furiosa really didn't have many lines in this one. I guess they let the action speak for her. But it does sound like a fun couple of hours or so. ๐
You can find me at moondoggie38.
I'm now up to 8 followers! But one of them is another damned fake Elon Musk. Or maybe it's the real Elon Musk just wanting to torment me. ๐
Anita is there. She posts her Daily Cowboy regularly. A really good account to follow is lainydelaney.
I found it! And responded to you about Darryl. And Perry.
I was thinking if Elon starts making everybody pay for Ex-Twitter, Threads might be a good migration site because of the ability to do polls and such. I don't have enough following to do them myself, but I vote in a lot of LainyDelany's. ๐
I haven't really formed an opinion of her yet, but maybe this will solidify it. Have only seen her in a handful of roles (I think I was talking about that last week). But I like Chris Hemsworth.
That's kind of what I get out of reviews I've seen. It should be entertaining, even without Charlize Theron!
That's kind of how I am with stuff shot in Pittsburgh (the locations even made Wonder Boys that much greater for me and that's my favorite movie of this century).
But yeah, when I read about it the story seemed like something that could easily be like that.
I was reading about Sight the other day. It's from Angel Studios, which bills itself as a producer of Christian-themed films. They did Sound of Freedom and Cabrini, but I haven't seen any of them to judge if they pander and stereotype non-believers like some do.
Although SoF had a QAnon connection.
Getting ready to watch the new episode of Doctor Who on Disney Plus!
I'm doing great. Been stuck in the neighborhood for a couple of weeks while getting the car painted, but hopefully I'll get it back Tuesday (ready for a Cinemark outing!). Fingers crossed those tornados stay away (๐ค). Thunderstorms I actually like, but I hate the way they scare the critters.
๐
Hey Tammy! Good to see you. Hope all is well. Give the old gang my regards when you see them.
Do you ever go to Threads anymore? I have an account there now. I think I found you and sent you a friend request or whatever they call it. Found a few good movie accounts there.
