UNC is redirecting DEI funding to campus police and using protests as part of the rationale. We live in hell.

NYU students who participated in encampment are still currently banned from campus and must complete ‘reflection papers’ on why their behavior was ostensibly lacking integrity.

U of A is really giving
Biden, at campaign fundraiser at Lake Washington on Saturday, claimed that there would be an immediate ceasefire of Hamas released the hostages. This is a complete and utter fabrication.
Meanwhile, this was on the screen at UNC’s commencement yesterday. Rare W for Duke.
Having taught at Duke for six years and very likely many of the students at this commencement ceremony, all I can say is that I am unbelievably proud of them and moved by this act of solidarity.
Here are the Duke anti-genocide commencement protesters demands and rationale.

Anti-genocide Duke students who walked out of Jerry Seinfeld’s commencement address then held their own alternative ceremony in the quad. ❤️ these students.

This was an incredibly successful action as it is drawing major coverage.

Note that Jerry Seinfeld’s wife publicly bragged about funding the group that tormented anti-genocide protesters at UCLA.

I have been waiting and waiting to see a significant action at Duke and these students did not disappoint.

Honestly, that the descendants of those who slaughtered my ancestors for being Jewish are now cosplaying Jews—and laundering the murder of Palestinians as part of the performance—is seriously sick shit.
Hmmm, clearly that is the significant distinction at stake. I don’t have the text with me but I will revisit it when back in the office.
I disagree. In On Liberty, Mill says that part of being able to have the freedom to think is the capacity to express those thoughts without social censure. This is the foundation of a deeply problematic liberal view being logically extended by the NYT.
This is also John Stuart Mill’s view of rights to free expression and my first year students will rightly tell you it is based on an entirely laughable understanding of harm.
Canada’s largest private high school organized “Solidarity Mission to Israel” that includes “BBQ-ing for soldiers on an army base.”

Canadian legal experts note that calling police on anti-genocide encampments at universities in Alberta for trespassing is actually violation of Canadian and particularly Alberta law.

During the height of the pandemic, prisoners washed hospital laundry, made masks, and dug mask graves. Now they are building more prisons.
The free market at work, amirite?!?
800,000 imprisoned people in the US produce $10 billion of value each year through their labor. $2 billion for private industry. The state of Alabama alone makes $450 million off the labor of incarcerated workers.
We have a word for this.

They apparently have a feed somewhere but I looked on various platforms and couldn’t find it
Unfortunately, I’m not the organizer, but I appreciate you flagging those. Will try to see if I can pass it on.
This follows similar violence inflicted upon protesters at the University of Calgary and mark the two most brutal cases of police intervention into anti-genocide campus encampments in Canada thus far.
