political philosopher at Georgetown University. giving this a shot, I guess.
I think a number of papers that run through BECCS at scale more or less do this, and the results are some version of "you 'prevent' climate change impacts via engineering famines" which should be more than enough to put everything in its proper perspective
these as it turns out are related - maybe you don't run for office in the first place if you look out into the political field and see these elements, maybe you run but delete or amend the police reforms sections of the website, etc etc this is all very standard stuff politically speaking
clearly lots of Dem politicians are vocally pro-cop. the fact that more aren't has to do with lots of things, some of which are properly democratic elements (fears that some reforms will be unpopular and costs votes, etc) and others which aren't (fears that the cops know where your daughter lives)
*I should have said "also" in the first post rather than "actually". when we finally win the people's struggle for edit buttons it's over for you mfers
i'm now appreciating one of the virtues of the party vs. party framework - whatever else it gets wrong, it prevents people from talking about what "politicians" believe, want, or say as an undifferentiated mass, which is at least a move in the direction of clarity
okay this is false, and the fact that the subjectively felt interests of Democratic politicians and police sometimes converge doesn't show that it is true
i'd bet a lot that it was more conditioning than boxing IQ, couldn't afford the risk of gassing out
I wouldn't say Usyk figured Fury out in that fight, but he was landing way more consistently after round 6 or so. I wouldn't mind Usyk's chances so much in a rematch
ok but I agree with all of those things, none of which contradict the thing I said
turns out the "impunity" dial is easier to turn up than it is to turn down and over the last century or so US politicians have found this out the hard way
I also suspect that people are appropriately disturbed at the implication that there are loadbearing parts of the political system that are effectively insulated from legal challenge. but keep the same energy you have for the Supreme Court, i guess
for lots of reasons, some good but most bad, conversation about politics is organized around party vs. party in the US. but the police are one of the subjects for which this makes the least sense, for the above reason to start with
this point is often brought up to (deservedly) dunk on the Democratic party. but IMO what this actually points to is the political autonomy and increasing lawlessness of policing and police forces in this country - the solution to which is probably not billions more dollars
we have a democratic mayor, a democratic governor, two democratic senators, and a democratic president and the cops are still free to treat protesters like enemy combatants.
Fury was pretty dominant in the middle rounds, and the back half of the fight was pretty touch and go so I kinda get it
yeah, the kind of Ruiz - Joshua I vs. Ruiz - Joshua II dynamic - Fury didn't really seem to truly believe Usyk could hurt him until it happened
I dunno I think he took this fight pretty seriously, I think he just maybe doesn't have it
Yeah I think the last judge who scored it 114-113 had it right. Unreal fight
Hell of a fight. Hard to see whoever wins round 12 losing it
Harder to score the 7th but Usyk probably can't give up any more rounds
Great start for Usyk - probably would give him the first two of the three rounds so far easy, arguably won the third too
don't remember seeing a whole Jid vs. audience fight on the undercard but here we are
what a fight. Opetaia earned it in the end but Briedis put in work
Incredible heart from Cordina to not only survive but win the next round
Protect yourself at all times and all but really bad refereeing in the Cordina Cacace fight
This was the number 2 ranked boxer! Wonder what the game plan with Reynoso was
Sanchez had nothing. I'm not sure why he took the fight - maybe the knee brace meant an injury
Nationalize cheddar biscuits
Every article about Red Lobster filing for bankruptcy is "ha ha endless shrimp, what did they think would happen" and then buried ten paragraphs down is the usual:
sad to see Wahab get taken apart like that, but impressive work from Chamberlain. levels to boxing...
this David Nyika guy looks pretty scary. Good chin / guard manipulation
not sure what's going on in this region in terms of solar production but am reminded of this thread:

There’s a growing trend of replacing shuttered coal plants with solar, batteries, or other forms of clean energy. The ground is already cleared and the hookup to the electrical power grid is already there, so it makes all the sense in the world! More of this please 😊🌎
Here’s Nevada USA…

"In one of its biggest steps yet to keep fossil fuels in the ground, the Biden administration announced Thursday that it will end new coal leasing in the Powder River Basin, which produces nearly half the coal in the United States."
