I will say, it is a bad allegory for post-9/11 America---and doesn't mean to be one at all. But there are at the same time a lot of post-9/11 anxieties being explored

I think they wanted stuff for the 'gram, which, to be fair, makes them extremely relatable to this inveterate poster
There's usually a survivorship bias thing where they will float a new meme, it doesn't do well, it gets written out of the FNCU, and then they move onto things that are more memorable. Trump was the much less common inverse, where someone hijacked their platform

A big part of what is galling about this conversation this year is we've watched that since the "groomer" panic spooked a bunch of companies and, hey! things are worse!

The other thing people misunderstand about Fox News is it fails to capture right wing sentiment all the time; they tried to kill Trump's campaigns in 2015 and this year and failed, miserably! Fox is shaped a lot more by its audience than people assume

A big sticking point for me about the "Rainbow Capitalism" conversation we have every year is that straight people are never asked to take the lead on boycotting and side-eyeing the million ways their culture is commodified and sold back to them
Anyway, you'll have to take the ups with the downs on this one; we're the coalition party and we have a coalition of news sources to match and you'll have to win over a bunch of them if you want your faction to be influential

I get the "but we'll do good things with it" impulse, but I do think it is a little hard to look at Trump's takeover of right wing media and think "I want that for me"

fwiw, I tend to think this is part of China's difficulty reading liberal democracies and the assumption that in that kind of chaos a Chinese general might go rogue
That said, I will not be *shocked* if one day we find out Trump gave some terrifying, ignored orders
