The politics poster your mom warned you about. Impeach, exhume, try, and convict Richard M. Nixon. Occasional earnest lib posting, but sorry about it. Press secretary for The Prophetess of Discourse. Brainworms taxonomist. he/him
Conlanging for Insomniacs: How to Pretend you are Using the Early Hours Productively
We know how the press would react to a Democrat insisting a wife was her own person, we all, regrettably, went through the 2016 election
Well now you've done it. The next Cormoran Strike novel will be about a woke political scientist getting his comeuppance
Some of this might also be that when I catch a whiff on the street I'm like, "Ah, Chicago, I came into the city" and when I'm on the train my reaction is more like, "Who let these feral people on the train? Why do we not shame more?"
I'm a boy in the suburbs who goes into the wild city reguarly, but I will split the difference on the weed smell thing: There are certain places, including transit, that can smell unbearably like weed, but it's hardly ubiquitous

I will say, it is a bad allegory for post-9/11 America---and doesn't mean to be one at all. But there are at the same time a lot of post-9/11 anxieties being explored
Oh, goodness, no, those people are a prime example of my point
Not to get too controversial today, but human society may not have been an entirely perfect idea
Juries are a bad idea, so I guess we have to let judges make these decisions
Anyway, I've not read any SCOTUS news today, anything on that front?
A thing about reading the jury, besides it being impossible, is they may be in the weeds on some charges and already done on others
You could make tofu with Trump's legal team is my takeaway
I'm glad to see that Biden/Harris also thought this workweek started on Monday because I spent all of yesterday correcting my days of the week in emails and conversations
NEW: Biden-Harris campaign will hold a press conference "with special guests" outside the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse where prosectors and Trump's defense attorneys are giving closing arguments (via Politico, Semafor)
I've not read a bunch so take this with a grain of salt, but the scant few times I have *specific examples* stand out. Big statement + illustrative example. They are hardworking + time they stepped up
idk, it's all tea leaves, but the jury deciding to power through to the end of closing statements last night makes me think they see the end of this sooner than later. If they expected agonizingly long deliberations, what would be starting a few hours late?
That screenplay had problems, but Jinx was doing her level best to paper over them
The Feds can be a little...zealous about their safety recommendations, but the water ones are usually not so conservative!
Think how gay I'm going to be when June strikes
Jeopardy today had an answer about drag races and I was several seconds past the question when I realized it was about cars

Including your mom*, who is really fun to talk politics with over drinks at 10 am!
*This is not intended as a your mom joke, but only because I did your dad
Honestly, there is no one I find more suspicious than the dudes who harangue me about enjoying a mimosa
I think they wanted stuff for the 'gram, which, to be fair, makes them extremely relatable to this inveterate poster
There's usually a survivorship bias thing where they will float a new meme, it doesn't do well, it gets written out of the FNCU, and then they move onto things that are more memorable. Trump was the much less common inverse, where someone hijacked their platform
Several of my students assured me today that no one would think I was gay if I wore a dress, so the kids are alright but their gaydar is not
A big part of what is galling about this conversation this year is we've watched that since the "groomer" panic spooked a bunch of companies and, hey! things are worse!
They are pretty good at dictating the agenda and birthing new memes from stock issues their viewers care about, but they really struggle to genuinely reverse their viewers' opinions
The other thing people misunderstand about Fox News is it fails to capture right wing sentiment all the time; they tried to kill Trump's campaigns in 2015 and this year and failed, miserably! Fox is shaped a lot more by its audience than people assume
I get this and might even broadly agree, but I want out of this intra-left debate that *they* have slapped a rainbow on
Unfortunately, the twin-couple is such a stalwart of gay culture that this post is being reviewed by brave American homosexuals for homophobia 😅
Okay, but is it church doctrine that they church does the church have an air of [homophobic slur] about it?
Pope Francis has apologised after an alleged slur he made against gay men became public.
www.bbc.comHairshirts instead of the cute T I got from Kohls a few years ago
Name one person who has tried to become a left-wing media juggernaut and become a cautionary tale instead!
I feel like I know him, but also, 2008 was extremely formative me and maybe that's it
Someone sent me a rainbow capitalism take and I had the reaction, "Ask the straights to do do PRIDE Lent this year, idk, let me have this." It's not fully baked, mostly because I'm *also* used to treating that stuff as defaulted
A big sticking point for me about the "Rainbow Capitalism" conversation we have every year is that straight people are never asked to take the lead on boycotting and side-eyeing the million ways their culture is commodified and sold back to them
Anyway, you'll have to take the ups with the downs on this one; we're the coalition party and we have a coalition of news sources to match and you'll have to win over a bunch of them if you want your faction to be influential
The hotter take here is some people do and they specifically want it for Bernie Sanders
I get the "but we'll do good things with it" impulse, but I do think it is a little hard to look at Trump's takeover of right wing media and think "I want that for me"
"Chinese intelligence clumsily misread the evidence they had based in some wild flailing around by Trump" really would be the synthesis here
fwiw, I tend to think this is part of China's difficulty reading liberal democracies and the assumption that in that kind of chaos a Chinese general might go rogue
That said, I will not be *shocked* if one day we find out Trump gave some terrifying, ignored orders
Many office printers in the US are set up to handle it!
