You can now send direct messages (DMs) to people on Bluesky! Say hi to a friend, colleague, or a crush.
bsky.social
This first version of DMs has limited features (no images or encryption yet), but we'll be adding more safety enhancements in future updates.
Enjoy connecting with others via Bluesky DMs!
Infractions may result in temporary or permanent loss of DM privileges or even full account takedowns.
Please use DMs responsibly!
In rare cases, we may need to open your DMs to investigate broader patterns of abuse, such as spam or coordinated harassment.
Rest assured this would only be done when absolutely necessary to keep Bluesky safe, and access is extremely limited and tracked.
You can report DMs directly to mods, who will review reported messages for Community Guidelines violations.
Mods can see the reported message and surrounding messages for context to assess your report.
Blocked someone? They won't be able to DM you. Additionally, you can easily block users right from within the DM feature.
By default, only people you follow can start conversations with you.
To change this, check the settings in the DM interface. You can allow DMs from no one, only people you follow, or all Bluesky users. It’s up to you!
Direct Messages (DMs) are now available on Bluesky!

4/4 Spot an issue with the labels? You can help by reporting images you believe are incorrectly classified, or appealing labels you think were applied in error. Human moderators review all reports and appeals. We appreciate your assistance in getting image labeling correct!
3/4 Moving forward, we'll continue fine-tuning the system to improve the accuracy of adult content labels. We're also reviewing our policy guidelines to ensure they're comprehensive and clear. More updates to come.
2/4 🎨 We've made some improvements to our image labeling system on Friday. The latest changes should reduce the number of false positives for adult content labels, particularly on furry art and cartoon images. Let us know if you notice a difference!
1/4 📸 We want to share an important update about image labeling on Bluesky. Every image posted is initially reviewed by an automated system that checks for adult content, graphic imagery, and more. The system then applies labels to flag sensitive content, which human moderators can review.
Still, using Bluesky feels familiar and intuitive. It's a straightforward app on the surface, but under the hood, we have enabled real innovation and competition in social media by building a new kind of open network.

2. We recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to moderation—no single company can get online safety right for every culture and community in the world.
We’ve also been building an ecosystem that gives communities power to create their own spaces, with their own norms and preferences.

We’re investing in safety from two angles.
1. We've built our own moderation team dedicated to providing around-the-clock coverage to uphold our community guidelines.

www.prweb.comSafety is core to social media. Transparency is essential to building trust in moderation efforts, and the data we are providing here is a first step towards full transparency reports. We hope this provides some visibility, and we intend to deliver more granular data and reporting in the future.
We have hired and trained a full-time team of moderators, launched and iterated on several community and individual moderation features, developed and refined policies both public and internal, design...

Hide Post
Hide posts that you don’t want to see again. It will remove posts from your feeds and put it behind a warning if you visit the post directly.
Note: This is a beta feature. Hidden posts are not yet synced between devices.
Logged-out Visibility
Bluesky is a public network, but sometimes, added friction matters. If you don’t want Bluesky to show your content to logged-out users, opt out in the Moderation screen.
Thread Reply Controls
Set who can reply to your posts. Options include nobody, mentioned users, followed users, and members of lists that you’ve created.
Recap thread of some recently released features 🧵:
• Thread reply controls
• Logged-out Visibility
• Hide posts
Behind-the-scenes: We're able to better regulate spam and automated behavior on the network in part because we've deployed updated automation that helps with spam detection, as we previously shared here:
This week, we’re deploying more advanced automated tooling to flag content that violates the Community Guidelines to our moderation team.
We’ll iterate on this so that mods can review offensive content, spam, etc. without any user seeing it first. That said, your reports help keep the network safe!
Today, we're sending warning emails to several dozen accounts that have engaged in these patterns of behavior.
In the coming days, we'll apply the "spam" label to accounts that have not stopped their patterns of automated and spammy behavior after this warning email.
We're stepping up enforcement of the Community Guidelines against spam and automated unsolicited interactions on Bluesky, such as bulk follow/unfollow and other forms of engagement farming.
Details threaded: 🧵
Some features that we’ve recently released:
• User Lists and Moderation Lists — add users to generic lists, or add them to moderation lists that you can easily mute or block.
• Sync Moderation Preferences between devices
• Remove adult content labels on posts that do not contain images
Another in-progress feature coming soon is reply controls, so users can set who can reply to their posts — for example, only people you follow, users on a certain list, etc.
We’re also adding back the ability to report your own posts for mislabeled content. This will help the moderation team fix incorrect labels.
In the meantime, other accounts can submit reports on your behalf. Please add details to the report for a wrong label. We will be improving this in-app copy.

We’ve been working on some new safety tooling — here’s a status report on what you can expect soon and what we’ve recently released: 🧵
If you've lost access to your account email or made a typo when you signed up, you can update your email in Settings now.
To make more changes to your email after you've already verified it, you will need to provide a confirmation code from your verified email to confirm the change.
We're rolling out email verification in the latest Bluesky app release (1.52), as part of a larger effort to improve account security and authentication on the network.
Update and verify your email in Settings. In the coming days, you'll also receive an in-app prompt to verify your email.
If you notice spam accounts, you can report it to us, and any additional context you add helps us investigate!
When we investigate spam networks, we use invite trees to identify where they came from. Often, an entire network of spam bots comes from the same invite tree. This makes it easier for us to track down and ban these accounts.
To join Bluesky, you need an invite code. Some of you joined the network via the waitlist; others through invite codes from friends.
Your invites and invite tree are private data.
Let’s talk about how we use invite trees to track spam bots on Bluesky 🧵:
To emphasize: Tagging this account is not a reporting flow. To report a post or profile, please use the in-app reporting feature.
This account will strictly be used for sharing information, not responding to moderation reports. If you have a post or account you’d like to report, please use the in-app feature by clicking into the three dot menu – that’s the fastest way for our moderation team to review your report.
Welcome to the Bluesky Safety account! We’ll use this to share more information about how we’re handling trust and safety on Bluesky.
