Pop culture devotee, from 7"s to Sbemails. New England raised, Midwestern braised. Fair warning: Music challenges and talk galore!
Donovan didn’t seem to realize, but when Bob plays It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue, the line “the vagabond who’s rapping at your door, is standing in the clothes that you once wore” always felt very pointed
So do I look back like “wtf were we thinking?” Sure. But as a pent up teenage white boy I was susceptible as anyone at first
They were seen as legit after their harder-edged first album (with the “Faith” cover). Then Other was as accepted as any of the scene (no less than say Korn) if not as “cool” because it was huge & on TRL
It was after that Durst started acting more like a cartoon and getting treated as such
Love the story of how Donovan thought this melody was from a traditional folk song, turned out nope it was Bob D’s own “Chimes Of Freedom.” That got them put in touch and gave us this delightful (-ly awkward?) meeting from Don’t Look Back

Probably my favourite clip from Don't Look Back. Love the way he does It's All Over Now, Baby Blue here.

Day 1 - Song you know all the words to
A song that speaks to how a life with ADHD & anxiety really feels. Just getting by, even as “the waitress yelled at me…and so did the food!”

SFAs are far from my favorite band.
As someone who was in LB’s target demo and played Significant Other a lot in that time, Chocolate Starfish was a disappointment THEN, forget with maturity/hindsight. So auto-vote for SFAs
Love the Apples and how they make a good gateway E6 band. This isn’t the one of theirs I revisit the most but they easily get my vote here
Good idea
What about something like (#)MeetViaMusic? Ok come back to me I can do better😂
Ok so it’s also a scientific exercise?? Because he’s going to group racists like plants??
…is this dude ok? Like clearly he hasn’t been for months, but what about now?? This is legit scary
“If Soul Man was a book” was not something I had on my bingo card for 2024
As I still get a bigger foothold on talking Bluesky music, this fits super well - thanks!
This feels right for a still pretty new-to-me platform and hopefully meeting even more cool people who rock some cool tunes. Hope you can join!

#MusicChallenge ~June
You can tell a lot about a person by the music they listen to.
So, for June, let's get acquainted! This is my first time hosting, so be nice! ☺️✌🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

Yep, food and retail needs (clothing, household products, soap/shampoo/etc) seem to be the biggest day to day necessity culprits
Not to mention continuing to price gouge long after supply chains have settled post-COVID. Inflation’s been dropping for months, prices have stayed high. It’s pure greed
I like Yield, a lot of it just feels a touch too straightforward, like they set out to make “Pearl Jam music” and did it right down the middle.
That said, It’s all relative - I’d have it behind Binaural and in front of Riot Act
Binaural is at an odd time in the catalog, really looking to stretch into more mature contemplative stuff and adding in Cameron.
I was meh on it at the time, but I think it’s aged the best of most any of their records after No Code (Riot Act has higher highs but is more uneven). So it got my vote
Now that the picks are done and we await the results of #Let5D0It, I hope folks who dug that will get involved in the first Best Album bracket that @bestalbumbrackets.bsky.social is running here on BlueSky!

This is the landing page for the Best Album Brackets, formerly known as @bestalbum95 on Twitter. We pick a year, pick 128 albums, and put them through the bracket wringer until we have a winner. Next ...
buttondown.emailCan we just run a screenshot of “DOWN WITH COMPS!” and run it as the DC for any album facing Modest Mouse?😇
Perhaps not in this particular matchup, but this little mini bracket overall I think will tell hugely
And then the window for making predictions for the main tournament will only then start, right?
Remember hearing Chef David Chen on the Bill Simmons podcast during lockdown talking about the Sushi Bro problem back then and how it was wrecking stuff. Seems to have only gotten worse/wider
Beatles strawberry fields and Eleanor rigby is my guess?
Bowie life on mars but not sure what the 2nd would be (but guessed him anyway😂)
Yeah you reminded me of all the votes for I Never Loved A Man… - the Queen was the 6th person I was looking for
Six with two in the top 50?
Beatles
Stevie Wonder
Bowie
T Rex
Beach Boys
Aretha
Very cool idea, I’d be terrible at organizing it but if we do end up looking for contributors HMU
Yuuuuuuup
Starting with a song I panicked and thought I forgot for this list at least 7 times
Yep, the heavyweight champs of acapella don’t mess around! I honestly never heard the song before their version moved me almost to tears, it’s still the only one I really need
Have really enjoyed sharing my #Let5D0It ranking and following along the rest.
Here’s a playlist to check out my choices, please do share yours I’m happy to start grooving to all the new discoveries while I tackle the headache of the next list for #UncoolTwo50!

#Let5D0It Day 50 - 1 of 2
Wonder, romance, pride, doubt, convention, revolution (in execution at least), this song covers all sides of any coin. It’s a perfect pop symphony that no one’s touched.
1. “God Only Knows” (The Beach Boys; July 1966)

I was wondering if there would be a flood of it at #1 since it’s not been posted as much as I’d have thought
Heavy are the heads that set the bar, I guess 😂
A vocal god at work, I didn’t put it atop my list but glad it topped someone’s

#Let5D0It Day 49 - 1 of 2
A travelogue through time for both a man and a nation. It’s truly stood the test of time, even though it’s another artist here who was gone too soon
2. “A Change Is Gonna Come” (Sam Cooke; December 1964)
**11 pts**

Will just say thanks once here, it’s been a great time and a big boon to who I follow and interact with on here. Gone off pretty smoothly overall at least from this side of things! You rock
