Just in case I hadn't realised I needed to go on holiday, I'm making loads of really stupid errors to highlight that fact to everyone I work with.
the nation can now pause for a moment of relief and a celebratory drink.
oh I mean by their own definition of needing money, most being grasping bastards, but presumably Rishi has so much he doesn't need the hassle
Maybe he'll just resign - I'd be sick of the whole bloody sack of rats by now, just let some other idiot who needs the money more fight the election.
well yes, stupid to try and look for much logic or reasoning in the Tory party.
Edit: wife has admitted she may have been mashing buttons like a toddler right before the mysterious failure to work.
Just fixed the oven, so that's some money saved. Repair man thinks I'm a moron but in this specific instance it was actually the oven's fault.
some of it is what readers are actively looking for though, that's just an interest category rather than received wisdom
oh yes, there's still books left - just feels another way I'm diverging from the core readership/getting old.
Oh I know there are plenty left for me to read, it just feels like another aspect where I've diverged from the many readers in the genre
out of interest, when did you stop/cut back on reading the novels? just curious if there was a tipping point
Clearly one of the ways I'm out of touch with the current fantasy genre is that I'm not delighted by the amount of suffering a character goes through. Seems to be a badge of honour for some but hardly of much interest to me.
I had not remembered when I agreed record The Wee Free Men for the kids, that it would mean I needed to do the dialogue for the feegles.
However, I'm sure my Scottish wife will never hear this thing my kids regularly fall asleep to & certainly not take the piss out of my accent
I have to hope that the vagueness is because they've not seen the state of things inside the government, and if you can win a majority on the basis of not being Tory, you'd save the grand plan for when you've got all the facts rather than guess. There could be a better vision laid out still
that's the concern. they'll not want to blow the debt of course and 7 day surgeries etc help with one aspect while worsening others unless there's a huge injection of money
What do you think they'll start with? Stuff like the NHS is presumably going to take years even with throwing money at the problem
Surely the first term will be taken up with trying to shore things up and establish a basis for making improvements? Tories will be howling that he's not fixed their mess inside a year, knowing the long-term damage done.
It's very different, and what they're buying is very different too. Open calls are, I think, a nightmare period on a practical level because they're already swamped with more than they can read from agents.
Always good when after 20 years in a job you still come across something where your reaction is "that's fundamentally deranged, why would you ever do that?"
And this week's big Monday morning "fuck you" goes to the white van man who decided to swing right into the curb as we walked to school, apparently forgetting that he had large wing mirrors.
Watching the episode of welcome to Wrexham where they compared R&R"s wealth with the average prem owners and man city owners is a nice bit of context to the title news.
"it was a bit of a shock when he said he needed to go away for 7 months of the year to try and kill Germans, but by then I was committed to the whole era thing so... "

They dress in traditional clothing every day, own vintage furniture and limit time with technology.
www.bbc.comIt may be that I don't last long on Threads - everything book-related appearing in my feed appears to be mostly "crap being pushed for attention" or "incorrect advice/pronouncements about publishing"
Just as long as you don't do your growing in front of the window...
Hive Mind - a question on AI-art for you.
Are there any AI-image generators out there that has been trained only on images where the artists were compensated? Or ones where they're now looking to? I assume not, but I don't know enough about this.
I'm not sure "the Queen decides she's got enough furs to be going on with" is the victory Peta seem to think it is, but...
Queen Camilla will buy no more real-fur items
A letter from Buckingham Palace says the Queen "will not procure any new fur garments".
www.bbc.co.ukIt's okay simultaneously to think that it's a good royal portrait and also directly inspired by a @cstross.bsky.social novel, right?
I'm currently reading Fellowship of the Ring to wolfcub and now we've reached the mines if moria I'm struck with an urge to re-read Stranger of Tempest... There's something to the old "write what you want to read" adage
I'm having too many conversations with publishers along the lines of "we'll have a designer to oversee/assemble the AI images, so the cover is essentially a human creation" as though that's a reasonable argument in a creative industry.
first impression isn't great. Maybe I'll get a better sense of how to use it but I'm not especially hopeful.
sadly both sides probably know Ukraine don't have the ability to counter much
yet they are still gradually making ground and wearing Ukraine down it seems?
yes, I can see that. Feel like I should have a presence on it and see which one actually bringing decent interactions
So the feed on Threads is a bit mad. It just pushes whatever it likes and whoever is popular in a particular sphere?

www.audible.co.ukthat's fine, loads of totally normal people will be keen to stand I'm sure.
For once I actually wrote something this weekend. Of course I'm thinking that I need to cut/trim most of it now, but having not exercised those muscles in six months that's probably no great surprise.
well yes, there seems to be a lot of management needed for it, for someone who's forgetful and lazy about such things. This all gets taken away by the council but I should be putting compost down.
Nice quiet day today, garden work all done given I can't fit anything more in the compost bin. I should probably go pretend I'm still a writer and look at that chapter, but I'm too sleepy.
obviously impossible to improve the database, reality must be reshaped around it...
how many white supremacists / religious fundamentalists will be there because they don't have time to properly vet any of them? I bet there will be story after story coming out during the election.
given they're already on the C-list loons, who are they going to get to serve as candidates next time?!
