Author of Katy of Clay and Tre-erde. Find my books at ulharperbooks.com.
I'm writing this scene. Again, it's like nothing I've written. Just such an unusual premise for a scene. I'd rather have a staff of writers take something like this on.
And, eventually, I just might
I'm learning that my new work will be in first person. Really happy to finally hear the narrative and not just see the images. Big deal for me
Been doing practice writing for this novel for a while. Tonight the real file starts. This might be the most difficult novel I've attempted.
But...go read Tre-erde. Go read Katy of Clay. Oh, yeah.
It's an opinion he stated, not a proposed rule. Just ignore it if you don't agree. That said, the best part of not having an outline are the opportunities it presents. Just shoo him away. It's all good
As some of y'all know, I've been planning a novel that I'm not going to put out on my own. I've been waiting for the summer to write it. 3,500 words a day at about 35 days.
There. I somehow found a photo of my camera and a photo I took with said camera. Definitely a lot to learn
I've released a few since then but I got really into photography. That and I teach during the day, so my time is different.
I've not watched one football game this year. But the super bowl is a huge distraction. I'm just going to go ahead and be distracted. I'm fine with that
I took this author photo on my own. I like it. Well, my wife clicked it after I set it all up. Get your author photo semi-professionally done, even if it's someone with a phone who really knows how to use it. But I like this, actually. In my basement
Just watched a kindergarten who plays basketball WAY better than me. Just...
ulharpercreates.com/portfolio-1-... A photo gallery to sift through. More than one if you'd like. Let me know which ones you think I'm prepping to ship to the public
I'm building my new site or different site. It's convoluted but I'm kind of happy about it. I'll tell y'all what it's called later. For now just know I have it
A dragon ate Janae's buried son. It doesn't mean she's not going to get her revenge on the dragon...and get her son back. 662GR is the code on Smashwords.com to make it cost about $1. #Authors and #readers, by all means, tell everyone Tre-erde is back on the market. Tell them U.L. Harper is back!
Actually, at the time I thought so. In retrospect, no. That said, I do own part of the process. It's also why I'm switching the process a little
Nope. Because I always have a budget going in. But I'm really thinking about why my results are so bad. I usually have to go back and fix the entire novel. My process needs to be better
They invented errors. They just didn't understand my voice, which I get but... They really added errors.
Over on D2D they offer to try to start a digital audiobook. I assume it would be like when .pdfs read to you. But they're working with Apple, it says.
This is where we're at.
Listening to Kind of Blue. This is certainly one of my favorite albums. Got it on vinyl. Also listening to Tom Waits' Blood Money. Also one of my favorites. Now I just need to find a way to market this awesome book of mine that I've neglected.
I shall do it all right about now
I don't know about profound. I don't see it that way. I just don't agree with the take. Its simply not about fighting etc. There are some technical things about the writing that is fantastic. Oh, and it's fun. Tom Waits is in it.
Um, from what you've posted, you missed a ton. I'm only here to suggest rethinking it. It's not about fighting. It's not about anti-machismo. And the buildings collapsing certainly isn't only about getting rid of credit debt.
Yeah, I'm not sure you know what Fight Club is about. I don't think you need to like it or appreciate it but it's not what you say it is.
Wow. I had a dream recently that certainly impacted my well-being. The thing is I've had the dream before. It's soooo terrifying. Is yours recurring?
I was inches away from publishing through Amazon because Sparks was being super difficult. Then, I found Draft2digital paperback publishing to be much easier than Amazon, and certainly simpler than IS. We'll see what happens #authors
I'm done #authors Going to rerelease Tre-erde. I'll find a proper way to launch it, I hope. I need the energy. But people need to read this. Well, at least I needed to read it.
By the end of the second to last chapter of this literature I'm reworking, you genuinely don't know how it's going to end...in a good way. It's one of those things where you're surprised but it makes sense but you're seriously curious because...it feels like an epiphany.
Even if I say so myself
Honestly, this is what agents look for, isn't it? 'consumer optics' aside, agents and publishers want a bio, a marketing plan. "Why are you writing it?" Who are you? How is this person asking for any different?
I'm going to finish the "redo" right now. This story is so damned different...
I'm only chiming in to comment on your avatar. I recognize it as The Mr. Bungle album cover for Disco Volante, I think. Underrated album
Not sure why it took me this long to figure it out, but in the context of the themes I'm using, my protagonist is the antichrist. At one point she kind of acknowledges it, and it's beautiful. I'm certainly going to rerelease this.
I forget that this work I'm re-editing #authors is probably my best work. I never really advertised for it but I need to. I'm into this story a ton, despite me speaking on my own behalf.
Although I used more than one proofreader, my manuscript, now that I'm looking at it for whatever purpose, is--not trash--but not up to snuff. I'm glad I'm going over it again.
The point is I've yet to hire a proofreader who proofed my document well. Only 1 out of over a dozen were ok.
#authors It's wild to be rereading this thing, and then find myself tweaking a scene to adjust the meaning of a passage. It's like I was hiding something that I now just basically come out and say.
My work is complicated in a simple way
#authors I want you to imagine a day when you discover that some chatbot or Ai or whatever has used your content word for word.
What do you do?
It's probably not the first time, and it's...YOUR work. What do you do?
I'm re-editing a book I dropped not too long ago. Some key moments are really powerful if you let them be. I may need to re-release it
