Cepheid Moss is the name; wordnerding's my game.
Lotta (justifiable) love in the thread for the D'Aulaires' books on Greek and Norse myths, but none for this gem???
I *adored* this book as a kid and still have my copy.
Reskeet with how old you are, using a vague proxy:
When i was born, we were still landing astronauts on the Moon.

The Seventh Guest scared the living shit out of me
Tidying my paper stash as we unpacked all our storage boxes, and i came across the very last of my resume paper ENVELOPES. I was like, "Wow, now *that's* an artifact."
Dude has so many fascinating stories. Growing up in France, school in England, racing morotcycles in California in the '70s. Tho' the Shah of Iran stories about his dad were ... unsettling.
Father-in-law may be an annoying goofball, but i'm also happy to sit here and listen all night long to his stories of working on the Atlas rocket program
RUDE (hilarious)
These that I had drawn on me by @edidin.bsky.social once just to make the letterers and designers I know flinch in pain.
Nature is amazing.
Nature is terrifying.
The most incredibly sculpted mesocyclone I’ve ever seen, with an absolutely classic tornado underneath. Silverton, TX last Sunday. #txwx
YES PLS
Candid photo of @errantpedant.bsky.social on a trip to #GpaKelly 's in Oregon.
“Go outside” they said. “You’ll enjoy the fresh air” they said. Photo from my collection, no date/info.
Check out this tiny Fergus!!! @errantpedant.bsky.social
The other four babies are also disgruntled and adorable, but with this round of photos didn't quite show the mood off as well as that first one. 😂
Thanks, i hate it.

Seattle-area home shoppers are facing dual pressures: high mortgage rates and high home prices. But some say relief could be on the way.
www.seattletimes.comAs an American who IS petty enough, i'm going to sit here on your shoulder whispering DOOOOOOO ITTTTTTTT
Yeah, it's terrible. I continue to follow a handful of artists i've liked for awhile and who still sell there, but i absolutely don't bother looking for new stuff.
Also consider all the times common names refer to different species. Let's face it, humans suck at naming stuff *gestures to all the towns named Danville in the U.S.*
Bumping this, because spouse actually asked if i'd gotten a Pride flag and if we were putting it up, and (as some of you know) spouse frankly NEVER asks about shit like this.
Who are we liking for Pride flags right now? Need vendor recs. June's coming and i gotta get the house ready.
A decade ago this would have been such a perfect use of a Ravelry forum. Really wish Textillia had taken off.
I need an exchange for handmade clothes where we can release projects that need a better home.
* Got halfway into this and don't really have an exit strategy.
* Completely finished and turns out it's just not my vibe!
* Almost finished, but my size shifted and now my heart's not in it.
&c.
Fortunately i have a secret weapon for dealing with father-in-law. Every time he calls me by my old name, i'll just call him by his *actual* first name, which he never uses because it's what his father (asshole) went by. I think we'll learn very quickly with the right motivation!
Happily, as spouse put it, we are "4 for 4 of the family i care about!" I appreciate (genuine) my autistic father-in-law's bluntly honest, "Apologies in advance for when i screw it up, but i WILL TRY."
Ok, so which member of the family is going to be weird about it after tell them about spouse's name change?
More great news for Boeing
www.seattletimes.com/business/boe...
A federal court jury in Seattle ruled against Boeing in a lawsuit brought by failed electric airplane startup Zunum and awarded $81 million in damages.
www.seattletimes.comFor when you're feeling decadent, their website says they ship now?
Rowena has been EAGER to get into my studio for the past week, always seeming So Offended when i (gently!) close the door in her curious little face. So today's finally the day she gains access, and ... WOW she is underwhelmed. There was practically a disdainful little sniff as she looked around.
Happy Pride to Harrowhark Nonagesimus.
It's Pride Month. No more burying your gays. Resurrect your gays. Form an undead army of gays. The sky's the limit.
"Research suggests that while surveillance cameras may reduce crime within direct view of the cameras, that 'deterrence effect' is offset by a 'displacement effect' when people simply move a short distance away."
Spouse: It's the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal???

By Erica C. Barnett Mayor Bruce Harrell announced on Friday afternoon that he has abandoned plans to install acoustic gunshot…
publicola.com"BORTLES!!!"
The state of Florida prevented cities from lighting up their bridges in rainbow colors for Pride month. So people did it themselves anyway.
After the state said its bridges will be lit red, white and blue all summer, LGBTQ supporters used rainbow-colored flashlights on Main Street bridge.
www.jacksonville.com"BORTLES!!!"
“As night fell Friday on downtown Jacksonville, 70 people lined the pedestrian walkway of the Main Street bridge and simultaneously turned on high-powered flashlights that lit the bridge in a ribbon of rainbow colors arching above the St. Johns River.”
Getting another updated piece of documentation with my new name on is THE BEST dopamine hit ever, because (a) yay, my new name, i still love it!, but especially because (b) it means I Have Completed A To Do List Task 💪
To be fair, it was the '70s. We were all feral to a certain degree.
I support a free name change for all other Donalds who wish to escape the perils of association.
Trump's Secret Service detail should be reassigned to these real heroes.
Thus proving there are 3 constants in the universe — death, taxes, and how much New York fucking hates Trump.
Sympathies. My absolute perfect pair of flip-flops was a pair of Eastlands from 1994, so (a) you know they had chunky lug soles, and (b) they were actually made in Maine. And, yes, i am *keenly* aware of how long ago 1994 is.
Now now, if the city deals with the Belltown Hellcat, someone might also start to feel like they should also deal with their speeding murder cops.

Once again, "more funding for police" often posits a tradeoff where residents give up freedom and money in exchange for security and safety but the cops irl basically refuse to do anything resembling their supposed job, especially when the victims are urban dwellers who the cops hate.
