We visit Japan's largest and oldest lake, Lake Biwa. A cat leads us to an overlook with a great view of the lake. We meet another cat hiding among the multitude of wares at a Shigaraki ceramics shop.
www3.nhk.or.jpha ha absolutely. sounds like something that would be a Sam Kalensky sticker to me!
Chofu is a little bit of a trek from central Tokyo but 100% worth the effort imo
this is from Beasts of Burden: Occupied Territory, and you should read it!
Oh yeah no. I adore Mizuki but I don't love anything enough to take a bus that far.
I love Japanese trains! But spending hours on a train to get to one small place, however excellent, doesn't seem like a good calculation when I could spend those hours BEING in another excellent place, you know?
bummer😢 I have resigned myself to never going there. Would love to but likewise the travel time from anywhere I'd normally be just doesn't make sense.
yokai don't know when anyone's birthday is, but getting new yokai seems kinda the same right?
#yokai
It's World Tapir Day! And yes this is relevant to yokai! The baku is a yokai that feeds on bad dreams and keeps evil spirits away. It was made at the end of creation from leftover bits of other animals. Its name is also used as the Japanese word for tapir. #WorldTapirDay #yokai
A fox has been passing through my yard every morning the past few days! gotta be a yokai right? but I haven't been able to get a photo while it's close. Think I should leave some fried tofu out for it? :)

Don't you love it when very different cultures have different weird mystical stories about a creature?😊🐸
Friends, as we gather to celebrate this evening, an important Passover reminder:
God sent *a* frog to cover all of Egypt. Frog. Not frogs. One, singular, giant frog. The Omnifrog.

this looks fun and promises a minivan full of yokai :D

oh this one is very yokai-adjacent - an invisible phenomenon personified (creatureified?)
Earworms - [Critter/Slang] - An infectious recurring tune, song or melody that spontaneously plays your mind, spread by musicians via lay-motifs and advertisers via jingles. Earworms are very difficult to forget, fortunately they are not (usually) fatal. samkalensky.com/products/ear...

www.etsy.comI am right now trying to decide whether to succumb to the pressure to somehow to make videos of our new pins to feed the algorithms, but I'm glad I'm not the artist of this project so I don't have to consider process video and no one wants to see video of me taking two dozen photos to get one right
this whole trend is weird to me as someone who is only an appreciator of art. I don't find such videos interesting and I wonder what non-artists get out of it. I get the problem that platforms prefer video (ugh) but I'd rather watch a video where you wave the finished product around or something🤷
that text is the only info in the book so I think that's all that's known
don't miss this excerpt from the huge yokai book which is totally worthy of this special request 😁
tragically this is *not* an article in which del Toro goes shopping for books in Toronto with a tenome yokai☹️
