Last year, I've founded the European Resilience Initiative Center, a charity aiming to improve understanding between Ukraine and Germany. Read this THREAD to learn how a French-German bank with a Russian investor undermined our goal to help Ukrainian civilians to survive in winter 2022/2023. 1/10
A spoiler: no money was lost, and we have a new bank account, and you can donate without any problem:
PayPal: www.paypal.com/donate/?host...
Bank:
IBAN: DE14 1204 0000 0462 1637 00
BIC: COBADEFFXXX
Bank name: Commerzbank
Recipient: European Resilience Initiative Center gGmbH. 2/10
It started in 11/2022, as I founded the European Resilience Center, and we have started our first charity campaign - purchasing power stations for Ukrainian IDPs, schools, hospitals. It was a full success - we brought power stations to devastated Izyum, and helped orphans to survive the winter. 3/10
Soon I got a message from our bank, Qonto. The bank wanted to know, why we receive payments, and what do we purchase at German stores. I answered immediately, the purchases were power stations for Ukrainian schools, IDP families, and hospitals, according to our charity goals. 4/10
Such inquiries from a bank is not something strange. A bank may ask a new client such questions to be sure everything is transparent, and no money laundering takes place. That's why I was not nervous. The weird thing started as the bank attacked our very charitable goal supporting Ukraine. 5/10
In the following communication, the bank FORBID us using our bank account, opened for our charity, to raise donations for Ukraine. They said "We sincerely hope, you can understand the potential risk which comes in this context and situation for our bank, our clients, and you". 6/10
I decided to act naive: "oh, what kind of risks?" and got another creepy message "I'm sorry that I must tell you, that I may not disclose any information regarding this case. I understand your frustration, but we act in your interests, to avoid further inconvinience for you". 7/10
Once again: as a Germany-registered charity we acted accordingly to our statute, using our bank account at a bank which advertised itself as one making charity campaigns comfortable. We raised money for CIVILIAN IDPs and schools. And than we got messages like in a cheap movie. 8/10
Of course, we did not stop raising donations. And the bank acted - they closed our bank account. No money was lost, but before we opened another bank account, many people (who do not have PayPal) could not send us money. So the harm was done to us. I started to making research 9/10
A Russian investor Yuri Milner participated in a capital of the bank. Was it the reason for the bank's actions? No idea. Still, the bank is a European company, and it's a scandal that it closed a bank account of a legit charity because of our support for Ukraine. 10/10
Anyway, we have our bank account at another bank, and anyone may donate this way!

When you donate to a legacy big charity, it can take 30-45 days for an application to start processing.
When you donate to a GoFundMe, the one in need has money in their bank account within days.
Venmo is instant.
Donate . . . better.
To register a charity with @charitycommission, it needs a UK bank account. To set up a NatWest bank account I need a registered charity number. Any ideas on how to break this Gordian knot?
If I want to donate money to a charity I do it via a CAF charity bank account. I can keep details anonymous so they just get the money and don't waste any of it trying to shake me down for more.
If you can afford to donate to your local food bank, please do. "Food bank usage [in Toronto] has smashed another record this year, with more than 2.5 million visits between April 2022 and March 2023 — a 51 per cent increase from the year before." www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
It still boggles my mind that I can send money from a Finnish bank account to a German bank account and that money is transferred/available instantly, but it takes over 24 hours (and counting) for my bank to acknowledge I’ve paid off my credit card with an intra-bank transfer. Just why?
Perfect! Got my #Deutschlandticket on the HVV Switch App using a UK/multicurrency debit card & as it's my first month paid less than €23 pro rata (only using it 17-30 Nov), cancelled straight away, so valid until end of Nov only. Easy peasy #Germany#traintravel squeezy! 😀🎉
How does one have a mortgage without a bank account? How does one have personal loans without a bank account?
How does one earn (a minimum of) $200k/year and not have a bank account?
Very strange that the new House Speaker, second in line to the presidency, reports having no checking account and no savings account, owning no stocks and having no retirement account.
Speaker Mike Johnson has never listed a bank account on his financial disclosure. In fact, on his newest disclosure he doesn’t list a single asset at all.
Do you have a bank account? Because they ask for a bank account to be attached to PayPal that way you move the funds into your bank account unless you use PayPal to purchase dog food or Veterinary
Me: Hey I need to open a bank account
Bank: Cool let's see a government ID and proof of residence
Me: Okay well I don't have an ID and what's a proof of residence
Bank: Well do you have any billing records?
Me: ....Obviously not, because I don't have a bank account
Bank: ...Sorry we can't help you
À bank asking me to donate money feels insulting. Now, that the bank asked me to donate money to a religious conservative group that's way too much. 🤮🤮🤮
