University administrators these days are, by and large, McKinsey consultant types. Their driving motivation is to please the current desires of the wealthy and powerful; their clients are trustees and large donors. No other interests are even relevant to them.
I've been an academic a quarter century and I've encountered a lot other academics. The single worst, most duplicitous, most toadying academic I've ever had the misfortune of interacting with in that whole time is currently a college president.
