“Jack Burton and the Rise of Atlantis” is seen as too wacky, a step down, but still fun; “Big Trouble in Little Tokyo” lucks out thanks to an end of summer release. “Jack Burton’s Double Trouble” features a pipsqueak kid who’s put on a bus before Roman-myth-themed “Big Trouble in Little Italy.”

“Jack Burton vs. the Moon Men” goes way off the rails, especially once Guillermo Del Toro’s admittedly over-budgeted script is abandoned for Akiva Goldsman’s hard rewrite. “Old Man Burton” is the least financially successful but is a hit with critics, who call it the “Unforgiven” of the series.

“Jack’s Off”, the smutty Full Moon produced cash-in that played endlessly on Cinemax but had to be retitled after Carpenter threatened legal action. Had a dozen DTV David DeCoteau sequels that made the homoerotic subtext into text.

Jack Burton and the Six Demon Bag was a great Tin Tin homage, and the first of Jacks adventures in early modern China as one of the six demons had time powers. Critics praised the return to form of thin plot but scenery-chewing dialogue with the addition of beautiful period-appropriate garb.
