If they get rid of Bret Stephens too I'll consider resubscribing
Stealing ten dollars from a million people is fine - good even - because one person is getting 10 million dollars
Not at all questionable! I mean is there anyone who doesn't regularly make use of Nvidia products in their day-to-day life? What's that you say?
If somebody is getting rich from it you can't ban it, even if it's predatory, because that would be bad for the economy. See healthcare.
Dolus specialis - genocidal intent. The intent to exterminate not just human beings but any trace of their culture and history.
Yeah exactly, him and pals. The idea has been around for a while but the latest thing is to include an actual algebraic theory for attributes like int, string, etc, so the actual meaning of the data can be represented. The big paper (a lot of unnecessary fanciness but still) arxiv.org/abs/1602.03501
Databases have been studied category-theoretically for decades. The database schema---whose purpose is to arrange high-level conceptual entities---is generally modeled as a category or sketch. The...

Obviously human lives are infinitely more precious than books but this image really hits a certain way
I've been learning about categorical database theory. You think of a schema as the syntactic category of an algebraic theory (the sorts are the tables, the terms are columns). Queries are profunctors. What if instead of just tables you allow UI gadgets, data streams, etc. A "deck" is a presentation.
I was obsessed with hypercard when I was a kid! It was such a mind-blowing concept. I had an apple iigs and was a big Woz fan and, of course, a big Jobs hater. Maybe a big graph computation engine, where you have databases, ui widgets, spreadsheets, etc, linked by a kind of algebraic language.
It's funny that they call these "hallucinations" as if there is some distinction between correct and incorrect internal to LLMs that is being violated
Wait what does he mean by that
Eli Cohen, former Israeli Foreign Minister and current Energy Minister, writes today in response to recognitions of the State of Palestine: “From the river to the sea, there will be one state: The State of Israel.".
A full throated doubling down on the imposition of an apartheid regime.
Our department has cut the number of courses offered, which was already at the absolute bare minimum. My income with a PhD and a 3/3 load puts me roughly at the federal poverty line. Adams' NYC government is just a pipeline to get money from New York taxpayers to Long Island cops.
as a public contract with a state agency, someone please FOIA these shitcunts to find out exactly how these muppets are certified in 'conflict de-escalation'
"the company noted it would "provide 300 licensed security guards with conflict resolution, de-escalation and law enforcement experience"
Strategic Security Corp announced the contract in a press release that used the #StoptheSteal hashtag and warned that campus protesters are working to “instigate violence and chaos.”

There needs to be a congressional inquiry into this tragic event at once
Grading calc finals again. From now on I'm going to announce a policy on the first day of class: anybody who assumes the square root is additive will be executed on the spot. I may go to jail but at least I'll know I was standing up for what is right.
Normal and sane response to young people chanting and holding signs
This photo of cops attacking student protesters at UC Irvine yesterday is fucking crazy. (Robert Gauthier/Los Angeles Times)

96th Street on the East side has always blown my mind. There's a hill, and at the top of the hill is only rich white people and at the bottom of the hill is only poor black people.
"What is your name?" I'm sorry I just don't understand the question. Could you narrow it down a bit? Very hard to follow what you're asking.
Lol I'm gonna guess these are techbros not computer scientists. What paper was it?
Free speech includes the right to shame or shun you morons
Preparing my curriculum for the semester: I really hope Hillary Clinton approves this
Welp, I'm convinced. How could I not be on his side after such a moving display?
There are cops on Long Island SUFFERING right now so you can have your precious public services expected in any civilized society - have you thought about that at all?
Same here, it's what I've always used. I'm just a hater what can I say. I always just use the same document which works fine except when you have to do something unusual, in which case it becomes literal hell while you figure it how to do all the shit you forgot how to do
Why is latex such hell? I've heard good things about overleaf. I use texstudio and I find it kind of awful. Maybe I just don't know the tricks.
We DEFINITELY do support a two state solution though, I mean how could we not? It's just we want the um... negotiations to be um... it would just be weird with the negotiations and stuff
All education is garbage right? I guess this attitude explains the state of the schools in Ritchie's district
