Taking a break from BlueSky, I think. Struggling with mental health at the moment, and depression and social media feeds are a very unhealthy combo for me. ^^'' All the best to y'all, and see you sometime later probably. <3
Would be p. cool if in 2024, our response to a "progressive" news outlet breathlessly relaying how awful two already well-known ghouls are for 5000 words wasn't to eagerly share the article around and gasp at how dreadful they are. Don't we know better by now?
In the sea of all time bangers that is the FFVI soundtrack, I always forget about this little town theme. Have taken a real liking to it this time around. Such a pretty little melody, and feels like a bit of a sister piece to Ahead On Our Way from FFVII to me.

youtu.beI always thought I was shit at drawing, but it turns out my artistic ability was just being bottlenecked by the cognitive load of getting lines, shapes, and colours into my sketchbook.
The cognitive load you experience while "generating sentences" is what's known in the business as "having ideas"
Streaming my first playthrough of Undertale was probably a mistake in hindsight (ending spoilers).
For today's teatime entertainment I return to the scene of childhood trauma. Dad rented this for me when I was like ten and way too young. Haven't seen it since, and barely remember now except that it horrified me. Very fond of Delicatessen and Amélie, though, so let's see what we think now. <3
Every single time this track looped as I played Phantasy Star 2 as a kid, I heard the Sega choir in the two notes at 0:09. Testing my work in progress map of the first dungeon just now, and it's haunting me again. Now my curse is yours to bear too.

youtu.beThe text on the back of the US release of Strider for Mega Drive is incredible. I'd never seen it before. Strider Hiryu, a crunching hulk of muscle. He of bursting biceps.
Had never zoomed in on the Japanese cover art for Phantasy Star 1 before. Regret doing so immensely.
Partner: *hears Final Fantasy VI battle theme coming from the TV* "Hey, that sounds really like Final Fanta-"
*victory jingle plays*
Partner: "Oh."
Uematsu putting any doubts to rest in just nine notes.

Steak: How do you know someone is vegan? Don't worr-
Alcohol: Very, very rarely. Though I like spirits when I do. Soju and whisky are faves. Not a big fan of beer or wine. Cider is okay.
Hot drink: Teas of all sorts. I love coffee too, but there's no contest for me.
Nearly there. Have also finished mapping all the towns and interconnecting tunnels now. Pretty close to being done with Motavia outside of the dungeons (which are, admittedly, the biggest part).
Not too much left! I now know more about Motavian tree formations than anyone should reasonably know in 2024. Do not recommend. That way madness lies.
Had never heard this anecdote before, and will never look at that logo the same way. What a clever solution.
I had to let this one out to exorcise the brain worms.
"Can you see all of me? / At The Cheesecake Factory?" popped into my head after I listened to the song again on the back of posting this, and I fear it's a brain worm that I'll never get rid of now.
Broke: "My friend is transitioning from male to female. Her pronouns are she / her."
Woke: "She was a boy, now she's a girl. Can I make it any more obvious?"
Bespoke: "She was a sk8er boi, she said see you later, 'boi'. 'He' isn't good enough for her."
"Are you a boy or girl?"
I am (I am, I'm all of me)
I am (I am, I'm all of me)
I am (I am, I'm all of me)
(Here we go)
I am, I am everyone, everywhere
Anyhow, any way, any will, any day

i am everything you need
i am everything inside of you
that you wish you could be
If on a winter's night a traveler, outside an abandoned club, dancing in a trench coat without fear of wind or rain, looks warmly upon you from beneath a mop of red hair, in a network of streets that intersect, and tells you that he will never give you up, nor let you down, nor run around and dese-

"80 Years of Backstory (And Not Once Did Wolverine Suck a Dick)" is my favourite Gabriel García Márquez novel.
Got an all time banger for cheap. Nobody bidded because it had been awkwardly shoved into the wrong case, there were no photos of the discs, and maybe also because it's a Chinese release (though everything is Japanese except an extra little quickstart guide in the box). But their loss is my gain. <3
Made another wee song with Phantasy Star 2 instruments / musical motifs for fun today.
"The dungeon at Shure is difficult. The other dungeons are progressively more difficult. But the dungeon at Shure is difficult too."
This headline does psychic damage to me.
This is just...grim. Turning the dial that says "content" all the way up and hoping for applause. YOU LIKE THINGS, RIGHT? WHAT IF WE PUT ALL THE THINGS TOGETHER? This is the multimedia equivalent of that "every character from every videogame, movie, comic wish me happy birthday" post.
Forgot what show I was watching for a second and thought Magneto was going to drop a seismic F-bomb.
Basically finished I think.
Not finished, but noodling about after work and composing a Mega Drive song with Phantasy Star 2 instruments and musical motifs for fun.
Unlike you, I get my NEWS from a reliable source:
Also going to add this as a slider to the game settings, I think. Didn't want to scrap the top layer in dungeons entirely because it's such a distinctive part of their look, but thought it would be nice to have as an option. I know lots of people who played the game hate that top layer so much. :'D
Top layer works now. Loops and scrolls correctly at a different speed to the rest. Though need to set up the glowing animation for its tiles, and also want to play with its movement speed. Really lurches around with the increased walk speed / more frequent scrolling, and makes me motion sick. :'D

Rebuilding the dungeons in this game is making me realise just how much their issues are compounded by the slow scroll speed. When the screen scrolls one tile with each player step like a lot of major RPGs, you see to the end of this dead end five whole steps faster than the original.

Some truly "90s independent game store in the UK"-ass vibes to the stickers on the box of this game I bought. Can already picture a vaguely greasy guy behind the counter with long hair who is scowling at ten year old me because he knows I have no money to spend and just want to gawk at the boxes.
(watching the FFVI opera scene)
Me: "Okay tear ducts, we've got our partner sitting a short distance away. Don't be super-cringe and cry at the funny little MIDI vocal track 'singing' Celes's theme."
Tear ducts: "No problem boss."
MIDI Celes: 「愛しの あなたは 遠いところへ・・・」
Tear ducts: "Fuck it, I'm done."
I taught myself piano on electric instruments, one of which was for kids and had tiny, non-weighted keys. Dreamed of owning an acoustic piano for well over a decade, and when my friend offered me her old upright, I nearly bit off her hand. Seeing one crushed for a shitty bit hurts my soul. Fuck off.
Seeing this horrific Apple ad, I can't help thinking how we're destroying the humanities and arts at universities in order to force everyone into vocational majors like "marketing" where they'll learn to produce soulless crap like this.
The replies are 100% negative.

Meet the new iPad Pro: the thinnest product we’ve ever created, the most advanced display we’ve ever produced, with the incredible power of the M4 chip. Just imagine all the things it’ll be used to create. https://t.co/6PeGXNoKgG
twitter.comTech menu is basically complete now too, correctly breaking down spell lists into pages and allowing you to switch between them. Just running with randomly generated tech lists and random three digit numbers for TP costs at the moment to test that everything is working, but no problems so far. <3

Getting there. Have actually mapped a big chunk of the south part of the map too, but the bridge over there isn't functional yet. :'D
Always read this in the voice of the "Mr. Prime Minister" guy from the Australia episode of The Simpsons.
"'ey, Mr. Governor! Andy!"

This skeet works very well if you imagine Waluigi is shouting the accompanying text.
As someone who first played FFVI in the early 2000s long after it was cutting edge, I don't think I appreciated how stunning this forest is for a game from 1994. The parallax scrolling across the layers of trees, and scenes like this beautiful lake. It's absolutely gorgeous stuff.
