hard cider or sangria*
wtf did my phone even do there
Eggs: scrambled or fried
Steak: rare or medium
Milk: just for cooking
Alcohol: hard cibor sangria
Warm drinks: tea or cocoa (though I tend to steep tea and then cool it off in the fridge or smth)
Eggs: scrambled or deviled, but no relish
Steak: rare bc I forget blue is an option
Milk: nah
Alcohol: sweet wines, light beers, MEAD, or margaritas
Warm drinks: cocoa or cider
I kinda do want to try to host a stream or a hangout or smth, but I'm afraid no one will be able to show up, and then my anxious brain will assume people aren't there because I'm a loser or w/e...but, like, I did the depressive isolation and now I wanna do, uh, not that
at this rate, I might have to bring back my idea to stream Duel Links but I play Gradius music/sound effects over the game's
"and you'll finish that Gradius fanart you started like 6 months ago?"
hey now, let's not get too ambitious

the extra life from the skill can go into Psychic Blade (pay up to 2000 LP, one monster gains that much ATK), or it might simply buy me time...and I already have a LIGHT Xyz monster in my Gradius deck, as a wink to Zone of the Enders 2's Vic Viper
I might actually come back to Duel Links for this
bruh, I went to check out YuGiOh Duel Links to see if anything's been added that might help my Gradius deck, and...I'm a little shocked by this skill they added that, like, this obviates multiple other skills and it seems better for my deck than the Dedicated Gradius Skill ๐
You can only use this Skill if your Extra Deck contains a LIGHT Xyz Monster.
1: At the beginning of the Duel, gain 1500 Life Points.
2: Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can choose 1 Xyz Mons...

www.youtube.comI mean, I've been making revisions and such ever since, of course, but...sometimes I'm tempted to rewrite the story entirely, with the lessons learned and the writing style I have now, but again, I wouldn't really want that
speaking of The Fox and the Thief, it has been so long since that first draft that...like, I wouldn't want to get rid of it or anything, but I have been thinking, if I were to write the same story from Grizz's POV, I could revisit the story that way
when I wrote my very first draft of The Fox and the Thief, it was about the same time Tangled came out, and I was worried about comparisons to my own story of a dashing rogue helping a sheltered heroine...but since no one made that comparison, I may as well make even more insane ones
Alyce Brangwyn: well, there was this mad scientist who gaslit me and conducted experiments on me, and he wanted to weaponize my unique features, but then this guy helped me break out--kinda stupid, but kinda cute too--and I mostly hang out with him and his friends now
Shadow the Hedgehog:
I'm still feeling weak and dizzy and faint from all the problems I've been having this week, but at least it has indeed been a good day at work so far...I might adjust my availability so I can get more opening shifts, it's kinda nice
actually, coming in for the opening shift is kinda nice...it's quiet but not too quiet, it'll be relatively cool in these hot months, and hopefully it won't be busy

I'm trying to fall asleep, I've got an opening shift tomorrow, that means 6 AM...but, like, for all the depression sleeping I've been doing lately, now I apparently can't sleep when I actually kinda need to...maybe I should just stay up? idk

you can see a few spots in the final product where, if Lyla & yoU were a Sierra adventure game, picking that option would've killed you (like not heeding Lyla's safety tips, or that "where's the snake?" bit)
it feels bizarre to say "you know, I could've killed you, but I didn't", and yet, kinda--!
another thing I decided against adding to L&U is ways to lose/die...but that's a decision I made very early, no regrets
failure scenes just wouldn't fit the vibe I was fostering, but more than that, I've been adamant about "you don't need to reread this book" and a fail state would go against that
when I was writing Lyla & yoU, one thing I debated on was open prompts where you could type your own answers...I knew I'd never be able to parse it and respond programmatically, but maybe I could ask smth like "how did you first meet Lyla?" that invites more imagination than a multiple-choice prompt
me in my 20s: I want to see my books published and printed one day!
me in my 30s: I am going to write a story that is so incompatible with the format of the printed book
theoretically, I could spin up a forum on the book's itch.io page and invite you to copy-paste your open-ended response in a topic there, if you did put enough thought and effort into it that you don't want it to just vanish when you turn the page...I might try that in the next L&U story

like, I knew I'd have to basically ignore the open-ended input and give some generic response...I think the act of thinking upon it and typing it would help you get into your role and think about the setting, but I also don't want to seem like I'm not listening and make folks feel like "bruh ๐ง "

like, I need the hours/pay, and my managers probably hate having to work around my absence, but...this inflammation is relatively close to my brain, innit? it seems like this would be a huge problem if I'm not careful with it
hm, I can call out for up to three consecutive shifts at my job, and it only counts as one demerit...I feel a lot better overall today, but now I've got this weird pustule on my head, and I'm wondering if I should stay home and monitor that
Lyla: I'm not impressed by anything less than extremely goofy, and there's no way this is ever gonna--HOLY SHIT

honestly, the one on the right is what I was imagining the whole time I was drawing this, because that's basically how the Sears Tower arc goes in the next Lyla & You book (with it being partly a reference to "The Mole People" and all)
I went ahead and took that "Lyla Brangwyn in the Sonic Adventure pose" doodle from earlier, and superimposed it onto the SA boxart!
and while I was at it, I also made an alternate version with the infamous warning from Marble Madness' "SILLY RACE"
calling out of work because my depression is spiking and I don't think I can accomplish much of anything today ๐
actually...I could call out, which would very much be me succumbing to depression brain...but idgaf about that, just about anything that might help me feel better at all is at least worth considering...
bleh, I've got work today...but honestly, my depression has sorta spiked, I haven't left the house in a few days and I don't particularly feel like dealing with customers, but oh well, time to tamp it all down๐
see what I mean
Just so you know when youโre mean to me this is how Iโm preparing to respond:
Alyce: --so as a loophole, I found the embryo of a sea cucumber-like organism, rewrote its DNA and fed it my energy so it grew to resemble an extinct human*oid* race, and I now pilot it telepathically
Grizz: okay
Alyce: "okay"? you're not shocked or--
Grizz: dude, this is space, I've seen weirder
a lot of shotant culture and lore doesn't come up in Tenesoir Memoirs because they don't allow Kyrinna to know (and she's not that interested anyway)...so I might have to fold space AU back into canon the way I did Shadow Over Moonbrooke, so that space!Alyce can tell us more

the thing about the shotant, the shapeshifting shadow-folk from my books, is that they're not allowed to take human form...but that then motivates many of them to seek loopholes ("can I infiltrate a human's mind and stay there observing?" "what if I were only half-human and, say, half-fish?")
trying to think of things to compare Lyla & yoU to, but I'm too hopelessly out of touch to do this (as if comparing my last book to Space Ghost didn't make it obvious)
it's wild looking back on the tracking, though...2 days to cross the ocean, then 14 days sitting in New Jersey doing nothing, then down to Florida, then up to Maine where I am
I almost missed a package my friend sent me, because the USPS tried to deliver it once while I was at work, and didn't leave a notice...USPS probably would've returned it to sender, but I went to the post office today and picked it up myself, so now we're good
like, yes, this post is insane, but also, it's sort of the point of The Fox and the Thief--it's both a celebration of uniqueness and the idea that we have more in common than that uniqueness might imply (especially if you're willing to see things in unconventional ways)
Alyce Brangwyn: well, there was this mad scientist who gaslit me and conducted experiments on me, and he wanted to weaponize my unique features, but then this guy helped me break out--kinda stupid, but kinda cute too--and I mostly hang out with him and his friends now

I'm gonna have Grizz pick up a new hobby at some point, maybe when he's old, or maybe he already does it by Lyla & You...he makes chainmail
he gets a ton of little metal rings, and he just twists 'em together with pliers whenever his hands are idle
Alpidt takes the sentiment "my house, my rules" to such an extreme that the Melaton Hollows may as well be a sovereign state...when wanted criminals stay the night at her inn, Alpidt beats up the cops who come to arrest them! that's not even hypothetical, that's a canon event in the book!
