I am obsessed with this computer generated image of a burglary suspect who looks like Oasis Goldeneye 64 Pete Buttigieg
Even with the mess that is currently YouTube, even with the algorithm going fucking wild on people, it still pays better than Twitter would (and that's not by much at all).
I can't really block some advertising on my phone without rooting or other serious under the hood alterations, so I downloaded an app that adds a simple mute overlay button.
You might force me to sit through it, but fuck you if I'm gonna pay attention.
I wonder If there is a measurable difference in how consumers respond to advertising, especially this kind of wholly extraneous screen advertising, if they have adblockers on their phones & browsers
Seems like things are going great!

For perspective, I own two guitars. Both of them are partscasters I assembled myself. I figure I spent maybe $700 on each in today's money.
And I try my best to take care of them. Shit, I even sprang for gold hardware on one because it doesn't corrode in humid climates like chrome does.
Some people are careless with their guitars, sometimes accidents happen (especially if someone bumps your guitar stand and you happen to own a Gibson), but I always tried to take care of nice things because I've never been able to afford them very often.
If the damage doesn't come with a story it's pointless, an instrument becomes an extension of the artist using it, they don't magically get better with use and it's sad these makers don't get it
Just the cost of the "service" to relic a guitar can run into four figures.
And that doesn't include the price of the guitar. www.chicagofretworks.com/relic-service/
No one is going to look at your relic'd guitar and think you were out there on the road for decades playing dive bars and "earning" your talent.
They're just gonna think you got chumped into paying way too much for a brand new guitar.
For folks outside of the guitar world, a "relic'd" guitar is a brand new instrument that's been made to look like someone has played the living shit out of it for 50 years or more, and they can cost three times as much as a normal guitar of the same model.
I *do not* get it.

IIRC, I read somewhere Netflix requested it to tie in more with the Sandman series.
In which case, if they hadn't originally meant to use Death of the Endless, it might make a bit more sense. Maybe. I can't be sure.
But they have, and they did, and it left me kind of disappointed.
Thinking it over, and considering this show was originally intended to be on Max, I'm beginning to wonder if the two Endless cameos in Dead Boy Detectives weren't added after the fact once they made the switch to Netflix.
Both are very isolated from the plot. They show up for a scene and then poof.
Same actress, but there are a couple of instances where she violently and horribly takes "bad" people to the afterlife.
I was hoping we were going to find out it was a misdirect, but no. They made Death of the Endless a judge, which she most certainly is not.
My own little hangup.
thanks I was curious and still am, I might check it out. What did they do with Death? I thought she was great in the Sandman tv series is this a different actress?
So. Dead Boy Detectives.
It was okay.
My own issues with how they depicted Death of the Endless aside, it didn't suck. At the same time, it wasn't what I would term "spectacular," either. It's a little unsteady.
Worth a look but I wasn't holding my breath between episodes.

You'd need to have a defective power delivery *and* have the whole thing opened in such a way that the rads were getting around the lead shielding that CRTs were supposed to have inside.
So unless you're going to poke inside it while plugged in, you'll be fine.
Aaaaaaah. Okay. Still, now kind of nervous still using my old CRT TV I've had for over 20 years.
No, that's because the particles hitting the screen over time wear away the layer of phosphor. When that happens for too long in one spot, you get the ghost of the image "burnt" into the tube.
Is that why images would sometimes burn themselves into the TV screen?
Now, lemme go through the replies and block the silly shits who decided to get way too aggro about correcting somebody online, because I never need to hear from them again about anything ...
That's the one. X-rays.
Still cancer beams.
And Jesus fucking Christ, after one person has said it, what in the living fuck did you think the rest of you had to add? Did you think making the same reply a dozen times made it LOUDER?
bsky.app/profile/drro...
sorry, no, this is not accurate. The electrons in a CRT do produce some x-rays due to a "breaking effect", and at excessive voltage, this can be moderately dangerous. But gamma is several orders of magnitude higher energy than a CRT can produce before the electronics burn out.
Yes.
A cathode ray tube is effectively a kind of particle accelerator. At normal power levels it's shooting tiny particles at a phosphorus layer. That's what generates a picture.
But you put TOO MUCH power in there and you're shooting gamma radiation.
I saw this on Tumblr and I was horrified.
IF A CRT MONITOR GETS TOO MUCH POWER IT STARTS TO SHOOT OUT FUCKING GAMMA RAYS
Y'ALL THEY WERE FUCKING EATING CANCER BEAMS
I understand this is an adaptation and things are going to change between book and screen, but unless there's some secret shenanigans going on then this interpretation of Death is simplistic and disappointing.
Really undermines the character and removes all the magic from it.
Death herself didn't judge, because it wasn't her function to judge. In the Sandman cosmology there are demons and the actual Devil and hints of gentler afterlives, but that's not Death's job.
The Endless are people, but they're also expressions of the mechanics of the universe.
Okay, that's two instances of Death of the Endless horrifically dragging "bad" people into the afterlife.
I'm hoping there'll be some explanation for the discrepancy, but it's really impacting my opinion of this show.
I usually can't get an appointment with my GP or thyroid specialist for at least a month at any given time.

www.youtube.comI dunno. I'll keep going, but if this is supposed to be an extension of the Sandman the vibe is way off.
Part of what I considered the be poetry of Death of the Endless was she somehow managed to be a person while also a literal basic element of the universe. She was never vengeful or wrathful.
Even when dealing with Mr. E in The Books of Magic, her "punishment" was to send him back the way he came.
One thing that's annoying me is that the show has included the Endless version of Death, but also it lays out an afterlife and a destination for the dead.
That's not how the Endless Death works.
And also it shows Death taking an "evil" spirit with what seems to be an angry reaping.
It's off.
I'm really trying to like Dead Boy Detectives, but I'm three episodes in and all half the protagonists seem to want to do is piss me off.
