she/her. PhD student in NT at Drew Theo, postulant for the diaconate in TEC. Preacher, leveled-up Church Lady, teaching everyone from doctoral to Sunday School students about the Bible. Radicalized by the Magnificat. Neither cis nor straight. From Jersey.
Part of why I simply stopped hanging around men after transitioning.
having the lived experience of both a man and a woman, it really is baffling to see the stark difference in how WEIRD men are to women compared to other men. i’m still not used to it.
I've been wanting Democrats to answer this question for decades
What is it that makes you a labour supporter? Answer cant include them simply not being the tories
I always wondered how the US didn't have a better cricket team. Hell, Central Jersey could probably field a decent team.
Holy fucking shit. The US Cricket team just beat Pakistan.
To put that in perspective, it would be like the Pakistan National Cricket team beating the Lakers. In basketball.
Idk, that birb is feeling more cis gay to me. I think we're still good with Blåhaj.
Used it. Talked about why the CEB went with selfishness instead of flesh, as well as the deeply misogynist underpinnings of the denigration of flesh in antiquity and (especially) early Christianity.
Anyone else have the Bishop show up unannounced while they were preaching as a postulant or candidate? ⚓
That said, at the 10 there was a whole-ass Augustine scholar who was far too eager to correct me on Augustine and Aristotle. Ugh.
So the Bishop showed up by surprise at the 8:00. Fun times. Sermon was a banger, so at least I acquitted myself with honor
Me: *gives an rundown of the Doctrine of the Trinity as justice theology*
Me, in the following paragraph: "Trinity Sunday is hard because people try to explain the Trinity. I'm not going to try to explain the Trinity"
Aaaaaand it's going to be one of those sermons where I toss aside what I had at the last hour (or, in this case, most of what I had) and start from scratch. Those have usually turned out good, because they're most often not about me. Praying for it to not be about me. Always.
Ember Day letter sent on time. That's 3 for 3. Back to the sermon... ⚓
I love so much about the BCP, but my favorite might well be (next to the C in the title) how much of it is just directly lifted from Scripture.
CEB coming in strong using "selfishness" for σάρξ in Romans 8:13, where NRSV used the more typical "flesh" is a choice. Not sure I like it academically, but pastorally I love it, and I'm glad my church uses that translation. ⚓
Post a PERFECT album from the 90s that isn't Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or Alice in Chains
Why did tonight's QC have to hit this hard? questionablecontent.net/view.php?com...
Kinda nervous to join. Sounds like getting your romantic partner's name tattooed on your body.
Figuring out how to preach on flesh/spirit without saying that the whole thing is Platonic misogyny and there is very little baby in that bathwater.
Honestly, it's like President Joffrey.
Sometimes I think about Trump wanting a moat full of gators and impaling spikes - specifically that would penetrate flesh - to deter migrants and refugees. He's not only cruel, he's cruel in the way of a stupid little child.
Building a whole academic thing around the deep misogyny baked into the flesh/spirit binary and its roots in ancient Greek (primarily Platonic, but not entirely) thought.
Preaching again this Sunday. Just saw the lessons. This is not good...
I'm away from my Greek books for a bit, but if I remember I'll do that. It'll be highly exegetical, but all translation is exegetical
It's done. 2k words, which is a little long for me these days, but I guess that's how it worked out. I can't discern which darlings to kill, so I'm going to leave it there, trusting that the Holy Spirit can deliver it however She sees fit.
I am feeling more pressure about today's sermon than I have in a long time, and it is just desperately mediocre, mostly because I wrote it, rather than allowing it to happen.
Oh well, who needs sleep...?
"...and it's more than just Rome and liberation isn't just administrative, and none of this is militarily, sorry not sorry."
Find me a translation that does not render the Gospel palatable, pls. If this isn't revolution, I can sleep in on Sunday mornings. ⚓
(and "will prove the world wrong" for ἐλέγξει.)
The Farewell Discourse was Jesus answering the question "Hey, aren't you supposed to liberate us from Rome?" And his answer was "Yeah, of course, but I'm going to bring you someone who helps you with that." ⚓
The NRSV translation of Sunday's Gospel reading is so desperately milquetoast. When do we get to move on from this 35 year old translation? CEB is more accurate in places, but just as milquetoast in others.
("judgement" for κρίσεως and "righteousness" for δικαιοσύνης are my gripes)
How dare Billie Eilish drop this album while I'm trying to finish this sermon...?
(it is *so* good)
Huh. Maybe because the Doubting Thomas is such an institution for 2 Easter? But, yeah, that would work, too.
I'm a huge fan of the Farewell Discourse, so I've been spoiled this Easter season.
Also: damn. That thing hasn't been reupholstered since I last rode it 30+ years ago.
Giving a moment of thanksgiving today for CMOS 17, and its requirement of a space between footnotes while I'm getting this paper done with a required page-count rather than word-count.
Remind me to never, ever, ever look at Star Trek fanfiction that centers a male Klingon love interest.
