What assurances can university leaders provide that the disciplining and arresting and beating of their students is not directed by politicians, lobbying groups or billionaire group chats?
This is true cowardice. Also, university discussions of decolonization are always performative.
“By defending academic freedoms, I emphasize again that fear and suppression of critical voices can never be part of a university that has yet to be democratized and decolonized."

Yes. In this and in every case of universities attacking protesters and inviting police to assault them.

What’s happening at universities around the country, does not need to happen. These are bad choices by university upper admins, city officials, & cops.
DU has made a different choice so far & keeping cops out. The students are protesting with chants, songs, laughter, teaching, and love. ❤️
Just returned from the DU encampment after serving as a faculty marshal. Facilities set up power & lights. Campus safety (unarmed) worked w/us to keep students safe. No drama, b/c no cops & chancellor said encampments are free speech.

I see HC is still alienating voters even though she isn’t running for anything.
Sure, patronize (incorrectly) the young people who are desperately trying to redeem your morally bankrupt society. That’ll go well.
The encampment has been permitted in DU’s FOE policy. We did have some rather vocal counter protesters today that, in my view, attempted to provoke a response from the anti-genocide protesters. But the encampment remained calm & disciplined. Students just sang their songs of protest even louder. ❤️
