well, thank you! i think we all reference, and we all SHOULD be. i used to be one of those people who was like, 'referencing is for the weak,' but now, if in doubt, i reference. and even when not in doubt, lol. it's just a really great way to learn!
Trust me, I was the same way with my prideful self, ngl lol -- but I noticed I wasn't growing as an artist being so stubborn and comfortable, so I eventually let go of my ego and started using references.
One of the best artistic decisions I've made.
i totally agree - i only started referencing properly a few months ago, and looking back through my art folders, you can pinpoint almost the exact day i did, haha. there was just a huge jump in my ability to draw clothing in particular
Yea, that's how it was when it came to me and anatomy -- and I feel it might be happening again to be honest, heh.
But it's so cool seeing the progress you've made in real time -- it's like your own personal motivation and inspiration, and it's pretty neat. 🦋

How are you taking photos of these/do you have any editing software? Some of it is a little blurry in the details, and not as black as it probably is irl-adjusting the levels could help with the latter, but seems a shame to miss out on some of the incredible details in these!
Phone to answer both questions. Finished pieces I do a 600dpi archive scan of for any art book or other projects I might decide to do.
But if given half an hour to rest after work, or draw or do errands/housework, or spend doing a scan, adjust, down res..glaze etc...well I have my preferences
That's not to say I won't. But it's not how would prefer to spend my free time most days
Understandable! I was partly wondering if it was a couldn't situation, vs choosing not to. Photos via phone can be difficult (I got lucky to inherit one with a good camera)
I should try to frame them better when they're done..but honestly most of the time it's late evening..im finished for thr day (drawing and mentally lol) and setting up for a greatly lit shot is furthest from my mind..especially if I have to get up for work the next day
