But this isn’t just another post on social media going viral, he’s being feted at one of the highest profile international film festivals that’s being covered by the world’s press … that does a lot of work to validate (or at least disseminate) some of his uninformed horseshit takes

He’s very much a contrarian, which I think is needed in Hollywood a bit more but it also results in terrible uninformed takes that get widely read
(fwiw: I interviewed him in person in a hotel suite yrs ago and he paused to the use the bathroom and it was obvious he didn’t wash his hands. Yuck!)
Oh god. I have heard similar stories about his being generally unpleasant from people who have hosted him at festivals etc

I don’t know whether you can call it a disconnect or just ignorance of
the topic and movement history of his work but it is shocking in how he confidently admitted it.
Also the "pure" protestor/activist ideal that he's appealing to there simply doesn't exist and is a gate post he isn't allowed to set. Some people live in food deserts and after the protest the only place open at this hour where you can get food is xyz, and people need to eat.
He's doing a macho BS play on the hippie in his head. "Oh you ate a cheeseburger from McDonald's you must be wrong about everything you ever thought felt or said."
So many holes in his perspective.
Some people really struggle to grasp others’ empathy
The cognitive process that led him to this analysis is wild! That people would protest the funding of mass death if they aren’t at risk of being drafted actually seems like the definition of not acting only out of self-interest!
It’s like the saying that (unsure of the exact wording) moderates oppose every war and support every protest except the current one.
He's a deeply cynical jerk. His movies reveal this, even though they are good movies.
Being a human being means having skin in the game by default and I'm deeply suspicious about the motivations of people who think otherwise
